I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped a 5700X in order to undercut Rocket Lake's i9 if it takes back the gaming crown. The actual performance uplift is fine, though it really doesn't look like they changed match despite what they were saying, it'll be interesting to see precisely what other big changes were made other then branch prediction and CCX unification, and I also wonder how much of this stuff is in preparation for future architectures and CPU sokets.

 My complaint is for anyone who wants to upgrade to a higher rated CPU using their existing motherboard. It is VITAL that you update the BIOS on your motherboard BEFORE you install your new CPU. I didn't know to do that so when I upgraded, the BIOS on my board was for a Ryzen 7 but an earlier version and it would not work. I could have put the old CPU in and did an update but the old CPU was damaged and I couldn't do that

 Even to take it out of service for a few hours, is a costly process. Although the CS Rep seemed very nice and professional, AMD put a lot of hoops out there. Finally, I got tired of it all and pitched the original $300 motherboard. That was cheaper than tearing down the computer for the third or fourth time

 They didn't. They launched a 5800X for $450, which I wasn't interested in. As I said at the time, if you are excited about a $450 8-core CPU, 2018 called once it's $9900K back. I mean, I mean, a 5% faster chip for 5% less money is not interesting

 Aldo Lake is absolutely, positively faster than Zen 3. It is superior to Zen 3 in every respect by this much. If anybody goes out and replaces the Zen 3 chip with an Aldo Lake because the benchmark says it's faster, you'd be dumb. Because it is faster

 Overall, I mean, there's corner cases here and there where you see a larger jump. But in total, an i9-12900K beats a Ryzen 9 5950X by 5 to 10% in an aggregate of benchmarks and tests. And having used both extensively now, the i9s, if I put them side by side, which I've done, and if I play with them back to back, like I play with the 5950X for a while and I play with the 12900K, the 12900K is probably zippier. Although my 12900K has DDR5, which helps

 I also let my computer handle the CPU fan speeds. I'm sure if I let the fan run at full throttle it would cool better but I'm not too worried about it.  Now for the less technical. The first thing I noticed after making the switch is how much smoother everything runs

  So far, really happy with the upgrade. The CPU runs nice and cool on air using a Scythe Mugen rev.B, and paired with a 3070Ti games run well at 1440P. A nice in place upgrade for existing users with AM4 motherboards to extend the life of your system another couple of years until DDR5 prices become more reasonable and AMD's AM5 platform comes out
