It's worst-case scenario The platform itself is perhaps more affordable owing to more diversity in motherboards more Upgraders upgrading motherboards creating an opportunity for you to pick up a motherboard that's compatible on the secondary market Whoo, but you can also get a nice a new motherboard I mean you get a nice B550 motherboard for this no problem And the part that really just blows my mind is I can't believe that for gaming How much faster this can be than a 12900K? Now to be sure for Cinebench and everything else the 12900K is going to outperform this It's 16 cores the best deal in the Alder Lake family I think is probably the 12400 the 6p cores. No e cores i5 and probably the i7 12700 K if you want to do overclocking those are probably the best CPUs on team blue you would be hard-pressed to build a system that performs this well at this price point From either one of those two parts. It's really pushing it it's maybe a little more possible on the 12400 with the 6p cores, but It's a Competition it's alive and well

It's just drop-in One of the test systems that I have set up for this is based around the tomahawk B450 from MSI and have added an MSI supreme 3090 It's not very likely that you would be running a 3090 with a 4050 I mean that build is basically all GPU, but I think it really underscores the longevity of AM4 You see I set this system up with an 1800X It's not unreasonable to think that when B450 motherboards launched you got a deal on an 1800X 8 core processor you got this motherboard and you've been rocking that pretty much ever since Maybe you got a deal on a 3090 or other high-end GPU 3090 is really a stand-in for higher Higher-end GPU and you want to see what kind of a you know system that you want to do for an upgrade I think this demonstration is gonna really underscore how awesome AMD's platform is because you can just Literally pick up a CPU update your BIOS drop that in and be good to go But before we get to that, let's talk a little bit about performance This thing is amazing, but I have to temper your expectations Just a little bit when we're talking about 10th and 11th generation Intel CPUs You know the 10 core for the highest end i9 and the 8 core for the highest end i9 and also the i7s It's really down to instructions per clock and how fast things can move in and out of the CPU Well, what makes this CPU special is that it's able to cache more of what's going on from main memory the problem with that is that strictly speaking it doesn't really translate into more of a generic IPC uplift more of a generic performance uplift when Intel moved to Alder Lake their new architecture They have p cores and e cores They designed the processor so that the p cores would be absolutely monstrous in their computation, but also their power utilization It's not really possible for them to easily cram 16 of those p cores on a single CPU So they make up for it with weaker slower e cores and philosophically that's a sort of similar to What we saw with chiplets. We got an 8 core chiplet and an 8 core chiplet and maybe on the 5950x there's a weaker 8 core chiplet and a stronger 8 core chiplet, but they're physically the same design It's just with Intel's it's monolithic piece of silicon. It's not chiplets and there's 8 cores that are designed to be fast And 8 cores that aren't and make no mistake Alder Lake a serious competition for AMD finally Whereas in prior generations Intel might have been struggling just a little bit

It's a little pricey the thing that blows my mind is that as expensive as competing CPUs are Maybe you can get it done with eight cores eight cores and a little bit more cash and a lower overall cost It's pretty impressive

After daily driving the 5900X, "upgrading" to an 8 core CPU was NOT something I was expecting. With that being said, the hype is REAL. It delivers as advertised! With all of my games performing as well as, or better than, my previous daily driver 5900X, I was blown away! My home battlestation is a Corsair 5000x, 6 intake fans, 3 exhaust, an RTX 3080 Ti FE, and a Noctua NH-D15 with what used to be a 5900x. My 5900X thermals idling hovered around 34-38°c, with Civilization 5 at 4k 120fps max settings averaging 55°c, Insurgency: Sandstorm at 4k 80-120 fps averaging at 65°c on the CPU

 It delivers as advertised! With all of my games performing as well as, or better than, my previous daily driver 5900X, I was blown away! After swapping to the 5800X3D, with otherwise the same config, my CPU idle Temps dropped to 28°c, and Civ 5 dropped to 43°! All while underclocking itself to 3.3 GHz! If i had to make a comparison, I would say that interesting 12900KS is akin to a high revving, small block V8

"The Fastest Gaming CPU in the World" - Ryzen 7 5800X3D

I’d like to say, I got this at the recommendation of a tuning service for gaming. I had a 2 year old 3700x and it was starting to get a little left behind with some of these triple A games.  I got this on 9/2/2022 and installed it that day, had the very long holiday weekend to utilize it and I would have to say this exceeded my expectations. With the older CPU I was having graphical glitches and stuttering, long load times and many hang ups

I got a tune up for the CPU and the graphics card and now I have an additional 30-40frames per second at higher settings with absolutely zero stuttering or hang ups

Interestingly, initial support for Ryzen 5000 series processes on 300 series boards started popping up very early on this year, but oddly only for budget A320 boards, which most of you wouldn't have purchased as let's be honest, they're all pretty garbage. Since then support to date has been pretty sketchy with some B350 and X370 boards supporting Ryzen 5000 series processes. And even then the performance hasn't always been where it should be

 I then flashed to the latest BIOS, removed the 1600 and installed the 5800X3D. This was quite easy on the MSI and Gigabyte boards. I simply went with the latest BIOS supporting the 1.2

Does the Ryzen 7 5800X3D Work With B350 & X370 Motherboards?

Bought this to get more frames in games I play such as Apex Legends and Overwatch. Previously I had the 5800x but what I found out was that my CPU wasn't the bottleneck in the games I play. I have a 240 Hz monitor and I want 300+ steady fps for consistency. My NVIDIA 1080 TI GPU is what was holding my fps back

So I didn't feel a difference in this CPU vs the 5800x but I will buy a new graphic card to utilize the power of this CPU, so I guess if you buy this for higher frames in video games make sure that to upgrade your GPU as well if you have an old one as I do.

That makes this particularly interesting right now because Intel just weeks ago rushed out the door its own response to this, its preemptive response, which was the 12900KS that we just bought for $800. So that's the competition that the 5800X3D is going up against. Today, we're going to be benchmarking it

 There's no direct $450 price point Intel option right now versus the X3D. The closest that's still high end would be the 12900K at 600, but AMD's own competition, the 5800X at $340, the 5700X at $300, those make potentially a lot of sense as a value play while still keeping the 8 core 16 thread count if you need a higher core count and thread count. If you're only gaming and you don't care as much, you're not a frame rate snob, then 5600X is still, well, 5600 now is a great deal comparatively. But to keep the cores and threads, the 5800X is starting to make sense here

 The original 5800X is now about $340, with the 5700X running at about $300. The 5800X launched at $450 as a reminder, and the X3D again is $450. The i9-12900K is about $600 right now, and we just bought that brand new 12900KS for $800. It's a little bit faster, but ouch, Intel clearly tried to rush this out the door before the X3D launched because it has to know that the value looks a little questionable here
