CC or CCA are hard to beat if you're in the Android ecosystem or already have Google Home devices around the house.  APE or ATV3 are hard to beat if you're on the apple side of things.  CC and Airplay are well developed and usually pretty problem free to use.  RPi is an option as long as you're comfortable with the (pretty easy) setup.  

More niche solutions like this can work, but they usually end up being more limited and pigeon-holeing you somewhere down the road (new services/apps, etc).

Has anyone tried this Dayton Wi-Fi streamer? $50. Perhaps a good alternative to CCA or RPi

I tried multiple times to have the Amazon Music service on the SONGBIRD app. I worked with support from Andover but we were unsuccessful. They eventually told me to return the unit for replacement. Still unable to stream Amazon music within the Songbird app and the new unit

Cannot configure to play Amazon Music

Andover Songbird or Arylic S50 Pro+ should do it nicely. Both are wi fi streamers.  I currently run the Songbird and am impressed with its sound and capabilities.  The Arylic would be a great pre amp if you had just a power amp

i have a chromecast audio connected to an aux input on my receiver.  i stream spotify (hopefully hi res by christmas...?) and use plex amp to play my local music.

chromecast audio is getting a bit flaky these days...  needing to be unplugged and plugged back in, etc.  

is there a comparable streamer out there than can allow me to stream from spotify and amazon music hd...  and plex amp?

If money is important, you should consider the Andover Songbird or the Arylic S50 Pro+. I have the Songbird at $150 and it does everything I need it to do. The Arylic is a bit more flexible but more similar than not and sells for $219. You do not get all the features that the far more expensive units offer but damned close

As the title says, I believe Network streamers are unnecessarily expensive. Their task is very simple and can be accomplished on any computer/phone/tablet/TV.

Am I missing something here? Open to constructive discussions.

Network Streamers are unnecessarily expensive

There are many streamers on the market and each is different than the next and there is just a lot of hyperbole about any of these units. My take is that it is inexpensive, easy to use and sounds great. I stopped chasing high sample and bit rates and am completely pleased with the current 16/48 resolution for my Amazon Music HD but Andover has plans to improve it to 24/196 in the near future. Quboz and Tidal will play in the highest resolution right now through its analog output decoded by a capable Cirrus Logic DAC but will be limited on the digital outputs to 16/48 for the forseeable future and after listening to this for some time now, I'm in no real hurry for that update as it sounds just plain natural and accurate

Great for the cost.
