My wife and I just got our OW. We have a Bahamas trip planned in Sept which would be our first practical scuba trip other than our initial cert which was at a lake. We've been snorkeling several times in the Caribbean. Whenever I get into a new hobby, I tend to go "Full send" with new hobbies. Sometimes this works out great, others I dump a bunch of money into it and fizzlez out or don't use it enough, change my mind etc. 

We'll be rec divers hopefully going on 2 larger trips a year, with some smaller ones that we can drive to California, so between 25-50 dives a year. I've been lurking prior to our cert for gear etc and I think the first gear we should get would be our computers.

I tend to think very long term and love technology aspects so I'm all for buying once and being done, so I've been looking at the shearwater teric. I KNOW down the road I'll want AI, regardless if I get into any fancier diving or not. But that carries a hefty price tag, over the life of diving I'm sure it'll pay for itself, but I've also gathered that for my current diving expectations/needs it would be a bit overkill. 

So then I thought about the perigrine, fraction of the cost, no AI, but it could be a good starter for me, then upgrade down the road but, at the point I've just spent $500 on essentially a backup computer. 

So, now I'm inclined to just look for a basic no color screen, get me by type of watch so It can take out some of the mechanics of diving so we can enjoy the dive longer and have a better overall experience. This way it's a small upfront cost, we can still do our dives and have it as reference, then if we get more into the hobby etc upgrade and it can be our back up. Buttttt then again, I feel like if I do that I'll just be "settling" for a computer knowing that it's not really what I want.

Help! Talk me out of (or into) an expensive dive computer

Decent entry level dive computer

Way bulky, returned for i200c, same guage face size.

I’m a semi-new scuba diver and I was looking for a good, reliable dive computer/watch that can track my dives and sync with my phone. Any suggestions?

Newly recertified.  Dove about ten times 30+ yrs ago.  66 yr. old guy hoping to do 2-3 warm-water dives a yr for the next few years (not positive how it will go🤞🏼)  Bahamas, Carribian, MX, Hawaii.  Considering buying or renting.  I think the first purchase would be computer &amp; light wetsuit.  Then reg and then BCD.  in that order (?)... I think...

Going to Hawaii in a month and then Cozumel in spring.  Then will reevaluate &amp; see whether I an still do this.  Buying a computer allows me to learn/get comfortable w/ it, but renting gives me the chance to learn/test some options.  Not sure whether to buy or rent &amp; wait &amp; see.  (And I feel so lucky to have a problem like that!)

A very complete DC for a beginer diver with some nice +++

 Take a good inventory of how much diving you expect to do and where you want to go with the hobby. For example, if you want to go all the way make sure your computer easily switches to nitrox and has the features your going to need later on.

Hello everyone, OW beginner here.

I just started scuba diving, and I for sure would like to pursue this as a hobby, so I'm starting to buy my first gear. I need fins, wetsuit, BCD and regulator, and I don't exactly know what should have priority over the rest, and what is best to rent for some time. I'm looking for good used stuff, since I don't want to spend a lot, but at the same time I'd like to have good gear, so as to keep it for a decent time (I'd like to avoid changing BCD in a couple years because it sucks basically).

I found a good deal on Scubapro Seawing Nova 2 open back fins, like 60 €, and I don't know how I feel about the springs in the middle, what is your experience/advice?

Regarding wetsuit (5 mm), I'm keeping an eye on Scubapro Everflex, Scubapro Definition, and Aqualung Aquaflex, of course I will try them out at a local store, but again, do you have any suggestion? I will use it when travelling, so lightness is a plus (the same applies to the rest of course).

BCD and regulator I don't really know what features to look for, the number of D-rings in a BCD is a plus for sure, but what else? Regulators all seem the same to me...

Gear advice

When I was looking to purchase a dive computer, the sexier ones definitely caught my eye. But it ultimately came down to a) well known brand and b) easy connectivity to a computer or app. Many of the dive computers on the market sold a cable separately or included Blue Tooth at a premium. I feel the i300c is a good value for a DC that has bluetooth by default and an easy to use App for tracking dives
