I’m a semi-new scuba diver and I was looking for a good, reliable dive computer/watch that can track my dives and sync with my phone. Any suggestions?

I bought this about a year ago so I've had some time to play around with it as a casual dive computer for rec trips. I've used a bunch of borrowed computers Suunto etc and I'm transitioning to the Shearwater likely in the next month. There's things that are definitely good/bad about this dive computer depending on your level of experience.

I'm looking to buy a dive computer - and the options out there is quite overwhelming.

# Requirements
I'm just an open water purely recreational beginner diver - with 3 dives post-cert so far. I'd love to dive more and I'm interested in doing advanced open water and Nitrox in the future. I'm potentially interested in a live aboard in the future. I don't think I'll be looking at technical diving any time soon, though this ABC article on cave diving has me intrigued - https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-08/sinkholes-of-south-australia-limestone-coast/100701716 - but I believe you only need advanced open water to start learning cave diving.

I think I'd prefer wrist-mounted. I'd like to have air integration to allow all information on one screen and to track my air usage data. I'd like to have a digital compass, in place of analogue gauges (I only have an SPG, no depth or compass), for navigation. I'd like to be able to download all dive logs to my computer and/or phone (if Bluetooth is available).

# Options / the debate
I see lots of posts saying buy Shearwater or nothing.

For reference, here are the lowest prices I've seen in Australia in AUD:

- Shearwater Teric - $1,575 + $539 Transmitter
- Shearwater Perdix AI - $1,325 + $539 Transmitter
- Shearwater Peregrine - $729 (No air integration or compass!)

For the price of a Shearwater Peregrine, I can buy these Suunto dive computers, all with air integration and compass:

- Suunto EON Core - $745 + $199 Tank POD
- Suunto D5 - $739  + $199 Tank POD
- Suunto D6i Novo - $799 + $179 Transmitter + $89 USB cable
- Suunto Vyper Novo - $489 + $179 Transmitter + $89 USB USB cable

Is the Shearwater Peregrine really that much better than Suunto models with air integration and compass that it's worth sacrificing those features? I have read about EON and D5 lockout divers who break NDL for more than 3 minutes, and not stellar Suunto customer service... but is it really that bad that it's not worth buying?

Otherwise, I'd have to pay almost double to get a Perdix AI to get air integration and compass features... and if that's the case and I'm already pouring that much money into a dive computer, then why not get the latest with the Teric?

I know there are these other brands and models of dive computers, but I haven't researched too much into them:

- Scubapro A2 - $699 + $249 Transmitter
- Scubapro G2 - $899 + $299 Transmitter/HRM
- AquaLung I450T - $699 + $300 Transmitter

Buying a dive computer for an open water beginner diver

 They make a dongle to synch with a computer but that is a separate purchase. If you purchase the dongle, it will cost as much as a better watch. Overall, it was not a bad watch but just not the one I needed.

Good watch for the price.

 The backlight itself is a little on the weak side. It provides visible and audible alarms. The algorithm used is based on Cressi's own reduced gradient bubble model. The computer offers safety settings to change the conservatism of the algorithm to make the calculations even safer

The Leonardo is an oversized computer that is worn on the wrist. It has not high-end features like a compass or air integration but it covers all the basics. 

Navigation is super-easy through a single button. Even with thick gloves the navigation button can easily be used.

The biggest downside is that the backlight is rather weak. In dark environments it can happen that the backlight is not strong enough to allow you to see. For an entry-level dive computer this might not be that big of a problem as a beginner probably would like to avoid complete darkness anyway.
