Arc'teryx Beta SV

Don't get softshell pants for resort skiing, that's a bad move. Beta AR can work but the Beta SV is probably a bit better for skiing. If you go with a jacket w/o a powder skirt go bibs. If you're just skiing one week a year though, you don't really need Arc.

I have the older Beta SL and it's been going on strong for 3 years. Since you're not doing anything technical or extreme, the Beta SV and Alpha series would definitely be overkill. The Alpha line is a very climbing/alpine specific series; look at those pockets, would you be okay with not being able to put your hands in your jacket pockets?. The Beta line is meant to be more all-around so the hood is helmet-compatible.

The Beta SV is plenty durable too, you won’t need any more durability. The Beta SV is a good choice because it’s fairly long, and people like longer jackets for skiing. But you could ski with any of their Gore-Tex Pro hard shells and it would probably be fine. Mostly fit, length, and pockets would be the deciding factors.

If you think it's too short, consider the Beta SV. I have one and it's about \~2 inches longer than the AR in the front... though it has a similar fit in the body as the Beta AR. The Zeta is for hiking only and doesn't fit a helmet so keep that in mind for skiing. I recommend trying them on with your layers to ensure a good fit.

Beta SV would be very similar to the rush just without the powder skirt and would be in between the beta AR/Rush regarding the face fabric denier, weight, hem length. Pockets on all three are quite similar but the SV and Rush are closest to each other. I think most people would vote for the Beta AR which is absolutely fine but since you plan on year round use and for skiing my vote is for the SV just because I like a more durable face fabric. I might be the odd man out for that reason.
