This softshell jacket is lightweight enough to be perfect for cycling, rock climbing, and hiking but still durable enough to provide protection and abrasion resistance from the terrain and environment. With a helmet-compatible hood and an ample cut, this jacket also allows for layering underneath, which many other lightweight class options don't allow for.
While not the most weatherproof, the Ferrosi provides excellent 3-season protection from light precipitation and winds, making it a good choice for backpacking, alpine climbing, and mountain biking. A staple of the softshell category, this is one of the best deals that you can find.

We’ve tested a wide range of hiking pants over the years, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a better combination of comfort and performance than with Outdoor Research’s Ferrosi. Featuring the brand’s signature Ferrosi Fabric, this semi-trim-fitting pant provides an excellent mix of weight, durability, stretch, and all-around mobility. In addition, it excels at temperature regulation: We’ve found it’s tough enough to cut the wind and shed light rain but dries quickly and breathes when the thermometer starts to climb. It’s worth noting that the Ferrosi was recently updated, with highlights including a bump in sustainability—the fabric is now bluesign-approved and 46% recycled—but the winning formula has gone largely unchanged for years, which is a good thing.

The Ferrosi takes our top hiking pants spot for 2022, but we do have a couple nitpicks with the design. First off, you don’t get a built-in belt, and the drawstrings along the inside of the waistband are a less effective solution (they’re harder to quickly access and adjust if you need to tighten or loosen the fit). Additionally, the thin fabric and basic pocket layout make the Ferrosi less appealing than alternatives like the prAna Stretch Zion II below for everyday wear and travel. That said, for hitting the backcountry, it’s as good as it gets on the market currently.  This is a men's size large also it does have a cinch here, so you can cinch it the little hem here around your waistline. If you choose to do so, there is just that one on the one side, so these four OC hoodies are made out of that's kind of spandex stretchy material, about door research. I really love this material, it's really nice and stretchy. This is kind of more or less a mid layer, type of geek piece of gear

 This is kind of a longer fit. It is a trim fit, but it's a kind of a longer bed, and I like that, because you can kind of pull it down a little bit and kind of get it down on your body a little bit more. Maybe you want to kind of cover your backside a little bit more like that. It'S a very good feature

I'm in an area where summer usually sits in the mid to high nineties paired with some high humidity, the dewpoint being between 65 and 75 most days. Two extra points of concern are the tick population in the area and an abundance of thorns. To combat those two concerns, I'd like pants that taper down so that they are easy to tuck into socks and that have rip-resistant materials. If any of these features are mutually exclusive, then please let me know.

Also, I'll be treating the clothes with permethrin myself, so the pants don't need any baked-in bug-repellent properties. Thank you all very much for your time.

Hiking Pants Recommendation for Hot and Humid Weather?

5 year review.

 This material is so durable. I'Ve scraped my way up, Chimney style pitches brushed across tree branches. While mountain biking and more and my froz hardly shows any signs of wear the soft shell material is highly wind resistant and also water resistant it'll shed a light rain pretty easily and can handle misty conditions, but it's not fully waterproof. So don't expect it to keep you dry in a downpour

 It is one of the stretch iasts softshell materials, I've ever worn, so it works with you, no matter what it's got. Plenty of features given the incredibly reasonable price point, there's a fully adjustable hood. The hood, combined with the UPF 50 plus fabric, makes this thing great.  Hiker by any means, but i am always looking to cut some weight where i can. I weighed both the hooded and the non-hooded version of this jacket. Again, it's a size large. The non-hooded version came in at 11

 Again, it's a size large. The non-hooded version came in at 11.82 ounces and the hooded version at 14.14, so super packable barely going to notice it's there and just a great option to throw in the back of your pack

Ideal pants would be on the slimmer side, have a cinch at the bottom to keep snow out and maybe fleece lined or just heavier material to keep the heat in and the wind out.

 I'm hoping to find pants that work down to about freezing so I can just layer if it gets any colder. Snow pants are out because they are always way too baggy.

Suck in the gut.

 I don't start sweating in it, I still feel comfortable and it just lets the air in and out when it gets colder. It keeps my heat in and it's awesome and then if it goes below that I will layer up and I can easily get two to three layers underneath this and because it's so flexible and made with that spandex you're, not feeling again constrained and constricted. Even though I may have a long sleeve t-shirt on and then maybe like a lightweight, you know hasip and then this on top of that when we get down to like 20 degrees, with some of the filling we've done here and that you've seen at the channel And I'm totally comfortable as well, so I just love all of that combined and what really makes this. For me, this jacket stand out from the crowd is that breathability and flexibility? Okay, guys want to show you the pockets here on this hoodie, you get three pockets and the first one is up here this breast pocket and you get great little kind of grab for these pockets with great zippers

 You know normal pockets, though, with zippers again get that nice mesh, so that acts kind of instead of pit zips as an extra way to get ventilation in nice deep pocket in there. You can see how big my hand is running around you, get a little keychain tassel on this one, so you could put your keys in there and it won't fall out. I, like that feature, a lot: that's really really cool, and then you just get the same thing over here again deep pocket put a lot of stuff in there. One other way that you can kind of store and carry this hoodie is one of the pockets

 You know cone or anything like that fits real. Well, they give you two elastic cinches, so you can really cinch that down. They got the zipper cover as well over here, so that when you zip it up, it's not going to bite into your face. You know they have a nice little cover there

 You know running a long-sleeve shirt and I am extremely comfortable. I mean I could stay out here all day: I've worn the exact same stuff on the bow of the ship that we've been, you know cruising on and it feels very comfortable and it is definitely a windbreaker jacket. Now I would say if the wind is blowing. Probably faster than 20 knots or you know, 20 miles an hour
