 Before we go any further this will not be a benchmark video as there is already so many out there that will do a better job than I can, so apologies if you're here for that. From the packaging we can see that this is the 10GB GDDR6X OC edition which will be plenty sufficient for my needs. In terms of features of course RTX cards have the ray tracing capabilities, but we also have PCI Express Gen 4, DLSS as well as a bunch more awesome improvements in the cooling and aesthetic areas. Opening the inner box we are greeted with a large and well protected GPU wrapped in its anti-static plastic as well as some ephemera around the outside of the box

 In addition to this we also have some ROG branded velcro cable ties which do always come in handy so again I'm not complaining there. Now let's get back to the main event. Removing the GPU from its packaging we can finally see it in all its glory. With its striking side, RGB bar, brushed metal and greyscale colourway accents for such a big card I actually think it looks pretty damn sleek

 As well as this the central fan has also been reversed to reduce air turbulence and therefore the GPU temperature as well. Oh would you look at the time, it's time to get ready for that peeling feeling, enjoy. So this particular 3080 has 3 8 pin connectors and Asus themselves recommend an 850W power supply but I'm currently running the 3080 with a 750W power supply and have had no issues so far. Also as you just saw there is a small switch on the GPU that allows you to swap between performance and quiet presets depending on your preference

 The temps are perfect. The fans are completely silent. The aesthetics, looks, and feel are beautiful. It smashes every frame that is thrown at it

 Yet, everything is completely tainted with the screeching sound of coil whine. For $1200 it’s just not acceptable. I want to completely love the Rog Strix 3080, but can’t because of something that is counter to every modern build, which is noise. Every time I fire up a game I have to die a little because I am reminded that this beautiful piece of machinery is making a horrible grinding noise that cannot be prevented or fixed

AND these company’s believe that grinding noises are normal and expected so an RMA only allows them to borrow your card for a couple weeks where you will only be sent the same one back stating they found no issues. Amazing performance / Beautiful / …Coil Whine Ruins it All

 If you take a closer look, you'll see that the middle fan is a bit different to the others as it has 13 instead of 11 blades. At the bottom side there is a metal backplate which is there to protect and reinforce the PCB, but its job is also to reduce the temperature of certain components such as the VRM section or the memory chips. There is also a small slit on the bottom side which allows for better airflow. For video output, the card has 3 DisplayPort 1

 At 1440, the frame rate improved drastically, peaking at 110, and it remained stable throughout the test. Further reducing the resolution to 1080p results in a measly 10% increase in performance. On our trip down memory lane, we tested Resident Evil 3 where we truly felt the nostalgia. With visuals set to max at 4K, the game rendered and stayed at 85 FPS

 On high settings, while increasing the resolution to 2160p, it ran at 67 frames per second and it stayed that way with some incremental drops. You don't really need more FPS in titles like this one, so the frame rate is satisfying. At 1440, the frame rate improved drastically, peaking at 110, and it remained stable throughout the test. Further reducing the resolution to 1080p results in a measly 10% increase in performance

 However, that does not stop us from showcasing the ASUS ROG Strix 3080, its overclock potential, memory and chip frequency as well as its acoustics and thermal characteristics. We will also be briefly talking about the Farce, which placed ASUS at the top of the chain. The 3080 is pure perfection and we will illustrate this in the next few minutes. I never was a fan of RGB as the outside appearance of a product isn't the selling point for me

yeah asus is crap. when I asked them if they could send me a single replacement fan for asus strix 3080 oc they refused. Zotac however sent me whole brand new cooling unit for 3080 AMP Holo with heatsink and fans for free so I can replace the noisy fans (or whole cooling unit) myself without doing lengthy RMA.

Great! The second time around...

 Asus didn't chip out on anything. The fans, well, the fans will have to test them out. How loud are they? How well the GPU is being cooled, but from some initial tests that I have seen on the Internet, it's pretty good. It's pretty nice

 The worst part is the coil whine however, I tried two units and both were incredibly loud and unbearable to my ears. It's a shame because the card performs great and it's a well built beast of a card.

 Giving more thermal headroom than ever before. Of course, they also have their Axial Tech Fan design which gives the fan more fan blades. And a different rotational direction for the center fan which in effect reduces turbulence. And there's also premium capacitors, alloy chokes and high current power stages

 Effectively giving the card more power and reliability. Also don't forget the Nvidia features like their Ampere Streaming Multiprocessors which brings more FP32 or Single Precision Floating Point throughput. It means it can process more commands, effectively giving more performance and increasing power efficiency. There's also their second generation RT cores which had twice the power of the first generation RT cores

 Giving the concurrent ray tracing and shading power for improved ray tracing performance. Which we will see later. And finally is the 3rd gen Tensor Cores which again, generational improvement that gives twice the throughput than the previous gen. Improving AI algorithm performance such as DLSS and now supporting resolutions up to 8K

 But before all of that, let's go and check out the card first. First impressions, the card looks incredible, stylish maybe due to the metal-like color scheme which I personally like. The card is also big to be exact with 2.9 PCIe slot design which means the cooling surface area is bigger compared to previous generation card
