You can get high-end 144Hz monitors with a 4k resolution if you don't mind spending a bit more, like with the Gigabyte M32UC, but if you aren't chasing a high resolution and prefer saving money, the ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQ is an impressive mid-range choice. While its 1440p resolution doesn't deliver sharp images like on the Gigabyte, it's also easier on your graphics card, and you don't need a high-end graphics card to game with it. Although its native refresh rate is 144Hz, you can also overclock it to 170Hz with a DisplayPort connection, and both FreeSync and G-SYNC VRR work on it.

Its response time is excellent with high and low frame rates, so motion looks smooth even if the frame rate of your game drops. It also has low input lag with high-frame-rate signals and remains low even when the frame rate of your game drops. It has a few extra features, like a USB hub that lets you connect your peripherals, freeing up some ports on your PC, and its stand features excellent ergonomics, making it easy to place in an ideal viewing position.

If you're looking for something cheaper in the mid-range price category, then the ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQ is a good alternative. The reason it's a cheaper monitor than the Gigabyte M27Q X is that it has a lower 170Hz refresh rate than 240Hz on the Gigabyte, but this only makes a difference if you're also going to use the monitor for PC gaming and you like playing high-frame-rate games. However, if you're only going to play games from the Xbox One X, this monitor still supports 1440p @ 120Hz gaming and downscales a 4k image up to 60 fps.

With its 27-inch screen size and 1440p resolution, the text clarity is good, resulting in sharp images and an immersive gaming experience. It has low input lag for a responsive feel, and like the Gigabyte, the ASUS delivers smooth motion thanks to its quick response time across its entire refresh rate range. Its variable refresh rate (VRR) support also works with the Xbox to reduce screen tearing.

If you want to save a bit of money, then a mid-range monitor like the ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQ is a great choice. It's very similar to the ViewSonic Elite XG270QG because it has the same 27-inch screen, and you can also overclock its refresh rate to 170Hz, but the main difference is that the ASUS doesn't have native G-SYNC support. It doesn't make much of a difference if you have an NVIDIA graphics card as it's still G-SYNC compatible, but you lose some extra features that native G-SYNC support provides. Still, it offers an impressive gaming performance that you'll be happy with.

It still has a quick response time across its entire refresh rate range, and the input lag remains low. It has a backlight-strobing feature that works at the same time as the VRR support, which not all monitors can do, and it helps reduce persistence blur with fast-moving objects. Lastly, it delivers better picture quality than the ViewSonic as images look life-like thanks to its excellent accuracy before calibration.

 Yo, what's going on guys, it is Thursday, April 29th, and I bring to you my complete office slash gaming room slash place to sleep when I want to sleep. And so basically I have a 1440p monitor just came in, it's an Asus Rogue Strix, I'll show you the stats real quick, it's a 1440p, 170Hz refresh rate. It is G-Sync enabled, as you can see there, and I do have G-Sync enabled. And I already did play some games on it, but it's really phenomenal

 There still is enough space left for my mouse, so I don't feel I would smash my mouse into the stand, which of course, is nice, especially as the lower part of the stand actually is made from metal and feels pretty sturdy. The stand allows for height and tilt adjustment in addition to that, Swivel and pivot can also be adjusted, though the monitor can only pivot in one direction, which I honestly think is a pretty good idea because this makes putting it back into a horizontal position pretty easy. All the other adjustments, however, don't provide any center markings or resistance When it comes to design, The Xg27a Aq really is nothing special. The backside is pretty gamery, but I have to admit that it's kinda nice that the shiny Rog logo actually has some Rgb Leds underneath

 This tells us that the monitor uses a panel by Au Optronics. According to the panel's spec sheet, it has a quantum dot backlight, which oddly enough, Asus don't seem to advertise, but of course they do advertise this as a one millisecond response time monitor. Apart from this marketing Bs, this actually is a very fast monitor. To make matters worse, the brightness also can't be changed, so this mode unfortunately is rather useless

 Instead, as this tries to attract us with features like Elmb sync, a refresh rate bump to 170hz and local dimming, These features usually are absent in the lower price range, while some cheaper monitors might have a few of those, but certainly not all of them together. Of course, those features by themselves don't automatically make a good monitor, so let's see whether the Xg27 Aq actually deserves to be called a premium offering, or if it's just overpriced. [Music] Now, we're looking at an Ips monitor here that comes with a refresh rate of 170hz. Well, actually, the Xg27 Eq comes as a 144hz monitor out of the box, and we have to manually enable 170hz through the overclocking option in the monitor's Osd menu

So far, that's nothing too odd, but after doing so, it displays a warning saying that this may cause flickering and we might have to down clock the monitor. To me, that's a no-go for a monitor that's clearly advertised as a 170hz monitor and not as a 144hz monitor

Now is the Asus Xg27 Aq worth buying? At its current price of about 450 us, it's honestly hard to recommend
