Last season I was skiing 158cm Nordica Santa Ana’s 93 and found that they were too heavy and did not float well enough when we had fresh snow. So I’ve sold them and now I’ve bought 161cm Atomic Maven 86c second hand for the normal days at a resort. I ski at resorts (solitude & Brighton mostly) and don’t do back country. I do like skis that have are a bit poppy and don’t feel like bricks

 The Atomic Maven 86C has a super light feel that oozes confidence and effortless ski ability. This ski is built to slice over groomers. Narrower than its sister model, it is a bit more snappy but still feels stable on harder, icier conditions. Beginner skiers will appreciate how easy the ski is to control due to its lightweight feel and ability to transition in and out of turns, while more advanced ones will value how precise and smooth it feels underfoot

 The Maven 86 has a quick edge-to-edge grip and turn initiation is almost automatic, making it really fun for speedy lift laps. The whole Maven series from Atomic is just a win. Buy the Atomic Maven 86C if you'd like a ski that makes you feel in control on solid blue trails but will allow you room to grow up to the double blacks.

The Maven series from Atomic is a win. The Maven 86 has super light feel that oozes confidence and effortless skiability. At 86mm underfoot the Maven is built to slice over groomers, it's quick edge to edge and the turn initation is almost automatic, this ski will make any turn shape you want. The Maven feels snappy and energetic but does not lack stability even as you push the ski a little harder on harder snow. It bites well on firm snow but the tails can be released to allow the ski to pivot, making this a great option for all skill levels. Beginners will enjoy how easy this ski is to balance on while more experienced will appreciate the precise feel the ski has underfoot.

 Here in front of me I have the Atomic Maven 86C. The ski is a really light, fun, playful ski in the mid 80s waist width, perfect for all mountain performance, has ample versatility, great edge hold, really snappy edge to edge energy, just a really fun well-rounded ski. For construction we have a poplar wood core with carbon in the tips and tails. Something that Atomic uses in several of their skis is the Horizon Tech, which you can see in the tips here, just kind of similar to a boat hull shape, so it really kind of increases the surface area without increasing the waist width

 You know, it might be a little bit light for a true expert. It might be a little stiff for a true intermediate. So really that advanced skier that's looking for a mid 80s underfoot all mountain ski will, you know, find a lot to like about these from the responsive tail to the floaty tip and the grippy waist underfoot, you know, thanks to that more vertical sidewall. So really nice combination of a lot of things here with this ski

 There is enough rocker to, again, you know, kind of help the stiffness of the ski release from the turn easier, a little bit more playful of a feeling. But again, much better suited for firmer snow and, you know, something a little bit more smooth. But that's not to say that it doesn't plow through the chop. It does a really good job for how light it is

 You know, that's not by accident. That is on purpose to make that rockered part seem more light and better for flotation. You know, even though it's not, no one's going to mistake this for a true powder ski. But pretty darn light in the tips, very floaty

I hadn't purchased new skis in a while and when the rental shop suggested that I demo the Atomic Maven 86C I was skeptical. I thought to myself, how could they perform that much better? Well wowser was I wrong! The first few runs demonstrated the difference in lightness and performance. I am a casual, intermediate skier .

Like flying!

 Especially for those who live on the east coast but plan occasional west coast trips and want to bring your own skis!
