 A little bit different to most boards in this category. Generally with this kind of board you go for a fully directional shape. What Bataleon have done is go for more of a directional twin shape. Now that directional twin profile just gives the board a little bit more balance, a little bit more of a rider friendly feel without compromising any of its performance

 Now Freeride 3BT is kind of slightly different to the normal 3BT you get on most Bataleons in that the front and the back of the profile are very different. So at the front you've got a narrow centre section here that's flat and then your side base upturns are kind of longer and more exaggerated. The tail a shorter flat section and shorter upturns. Now what that does, the longer upturns at the front just kind of give the board more turning power, more turning response, makes the nose of the board engage quicker and roll into the turn a lot easier

All right, so this is a more robust board, but it's got these flex points right outside the insert pack, so when you leverage your weight in a butter, it activates super smoothly, and then the 3BT in the sidekick takeover, so you've got this scooped out section in the nose and the tail that just let you swivel and sizzle. You don't have to worry about it. You can get sideways

 I just found myself going a little bit higher, a little bit further. It's one of those boards that you don't really have to hesitate when you go hit a jump with it. Is that what it's for? No, but can I handle it? Yes.  Now, with that said, just like buttering, you just got to leverage your weight outside that insert pack to press it in the nose or the tail. It does take a little more effort on a feature. You notice that right away. You're really going to push into it, kind of muscle it, and it's going to rebound and snap back up

 This board is available in 154, 156, 156 wide, 158, 159 wide, 161, and 162 wide. I rode this board at Copper Mountain on a day that had 5 to 8 inches of fresh powder, there was more snow falling, gray skies, low to high winds depending where you were. You had some chopping chunder around the mountain, you had powder corduroy, and I rode it with my Rome Black Label bindings and my K2 Thraxis boots. The overall flex of this board does come in just past a middle of the road all mountain flex, but there are key defined flex points right outside and inside the inserts
