 It's a big canister. There's not much to talk about on it. Well, I just want to say that this is pretty durable. If you pick up one, it's heavy and that's the big thing I talked about in other videos

 Kind of get with your big bulky items in there and so today you want to do these, we're going to do the meal to go first. kind of just organize them in here so just kind of pack them down in there and then I'm going to go ahead and put some of the items we'd like to carry with us that are more personal items, but you know, carry a scent with them so it's important to keep those away from you while you're in the tent. And then these are some none electrolyte tablets. These work great

 So guys, I hope this kind of shows what exactly can fit into the bear vault? That's it. We've got a completely full as you can see, that's how much you can get into it. And remember, it's just really about trying to figure out the best approach, how to feel it, how many days you're going to be on the trail, What you can just go ahead and carry in your pack because you're going to be using it that day. That way you can maximize how much you can carry with you you know, at a reasonable degree and not carry too much weight

 Sort of like a peel bottle. That's the main concept of how you open it and then you've got this durable body on it and then you know we've loaded ours up with stickers that basically mark it as ours. This is the main concept of it. We're gonna go ahead and fill this up with some different snacks I have here

Good size but when it’s 20 degrees out pushing those plastic tabs to open it when your fingers are half frozen makes for a tricky task. I’ll opt the key canister next time.

  The 2lbs isn't a big issue when you consider the overall size of one's pack.  For those who complain about how much extra space there can be, especially after food is consumed, just fill that extra space with other items.  Just be careful not to store clothing or things that you'd want in your tent or else there might be food residue or odors lingering on them.  The little bumps on the outside for straps is a nice option should you want/need to strap it to the outside of your pack, but also helps with gripping the vault itself

  (I believe the original ones were heavier than they are now.)  I would also like to see them make one that's maybe 2/3 to 1/2 smaller for true soloists who are only going to do a 2-3 night trip on a long weekend.  I like to do take off on the weekends and the BV450 is much more room than I need for storing items for what really turns out to be only 2-full days.  But other than that, it's a worthwhile investment if you're going to be backpacking!

I have no trouble with the lid.  I find it extremely easy to open and close, and a lot more convenient than having to twist off a screw with a nickel.  I would recommend that those who have trouble unlocking the lid, only lock it when you're absolutely finished with it for the evening.  I usually keep mine all the way closed but not past the locked position even in my pack, or just keep it locked past the first tab so you only have to deal with one

  (Of course lock it past both tabs when you're leaving campsite or done for the evening and going to sleep!)

Great Bear Protection

I read reviews that said how tough it could be to open, and totally see where those reviewers were coming from. I definitely had moments where I cursed the tabs keeping the lid locked as I leaned into it with all my weight behind my frozen fingers. I was always able to get it open though, and it had plenty of space for a few days trip food to fit inside and is small enough to fit into my pack with space allowed for all my other necessities. I would comfortable recommend this to my friends and family

Some Persistence Required

  Anyway, the one I have now seems to work perfect for me and its been on about 4-5 multi-day trips throughout Washington State during all 4 seasons of the year without fail and the lid still seems secure so i have to give this little canister a good rating overall.

 It is what it says it is. I found it too heavy and at times difficult to get open especially when my fingers and hands were cold and tired. May try a hanging bag next trip to save on weight.
