 The ADA 8200 also features high quality Cirrus Logic A to D converters which support 24 bit 48 kilohertz operation. So again, this is the ADA 8200, a great way to expand your digital audio system. I'm John with Behringer and thanks for watching Music Group TV.

 Really simple. We also have controls back here for synchronization. Now when you're using two pieces of digital equipment together, you need to make sure that one is master and one is set for external sync. So you can do that right on the back here and we even have BNC word clock connectivity for synchronizing with other digital equipment as well

 Looking at the back of the unit, you'll notice we have our ADAT connectivity and we also have 8 XLR outputs as well. So how this works is basically anything you feed, the 8 channels of audio you feed into the ADAT input are going to come out of those XLR outputs on the rear of the unit. Likewise, the 8 inputs on the front will be fed out of the ADAT output on the back. So if you're using this to expand your audio interface for example, you know, add some more mic preamps, you're just going to come out of the ADAT output here and connect it to the ADAT input on your audio interface

 Each input has signal and clip indication and of course its own gain knob right here. So we have 8 channels of that and then as we get to the other side of the unit here, you can see that we have indication for synchronization as well as a phantom power switch which will allow us to engage or disengage phantom power globally for all mic inputs. Looking at the back of the unit, you'll notice we have our ADAT connectivity and we also have 8 XLR outputs as well. So how this works is basically anything you feed, the 8 channels of audio you feed into the ADAT input are going to come out of those XLR outputs on the rear of the unit

I’ve only ever played my synths with whatever cheap stuff I’ve been able to afford. I started with the Apogee Duet but then needed something bigger for more ins so I got the cheap Scarlett 18i8. I need something better than the latter one. It’s got many ins but not very good preamps. So thought I’d sell both interfaces and get a better one with many ins and good preamps. Are there any affordable solutions for this?

Having something like 8 synths: what’s the most affordable audio interface with good preamps?

 Sounds great to me. Surprisingly low latency (negligible for most purposes). Looks nice as well. Seems well-built, except perhaps for the front knobs which seem a TAD flimsy, but hey this thing does the job of much more expensive units

Solid, but NOTE: the analog outs require ADAT loopback

 Okay, I got the camera kind of pulled in a little closer here, so let's take a look at, on my interface, this is the RME Fireface UCX. I painstakingly removed it from my rack, took the rack ears off. Let's take a look at the back panel here, and you know, this thing is just chock-full of connectivity, so you can imagine how many things I have plugged into it. So that's the reason it took me so long to get around to doing this demonstration, because man, it's really a pain to get all that disconnected and reconnected, but it was something I needed to do, because last time I rearranged everything in my studio, I didn't, I had to change some of the cables that I was using, and I didn't label the cables, so this was a good opportunity to put some labels on all the cables, so they shouldn't be that difficult to get everything back where it belongs

 In the comments to that video, Recording Studio 9 had made the comment that by connecting another ADAT cable, having one both to the digital out and the digital in, that I would be able to use the analog ins on the front, send those to my interface, and the analog outputs on the back and be able to send those to my interface. And for me that's a really exciting possibility because while my interface here has eight analog inputs and eight analog outputs, you know, two of those analog outputs are the main speaker outputs, another two are the headphone outputs, and that really only leaves four analog outputs. And what I'm trying to loop in outward gear and trying to get you know send line level signals to my compressors and things like that, I end up getting in situations where I can only do a couple at a time and I have to take turns using the same analog outputs. I like being able to have the analog inputs here for recording drums so I could have you know eight and nine and ten however many microphones all recording at the same time, but this will be really cool if I can actually get eight outputs out of this thing as well and use them in conjunction with the analog outputs on my interface here

 Also the main thing that I got wrong in that review was the way that I thought that it worked was if you plugged a microphone into the the front panel here, that it ended up essentially passing that signal through to the analog outputs on the back. And I made the suggestion that you could pair this with an audio interface that maybe if it doesn't have ADAT connectivity, digital connectivity, that you could just use the analog out as basically just a pass-through from the front panel through the back panel and into analog inputs on your interface. That's just wrong, it doesn't work that way at all. So sorry, I hope I didn't mislead anybody too badly there, and I'll see if I can put an annotation or something, you know, maybe a comment on that other video to let everybody know that, yeah, I was just wrong

Recently, I learned I could expand my Motu 8pre (FireWire) with another interface via ADAT. I want to expand to 16 inputs. I was about to snag the focusrite saffire pro 40, but I am unsure due to the discontinuation of the pro 40s drivers. 
If it were you, what machine would you buy to connect to the 8pre? 
(my budget is pretty tight)
Which device should be the master?

Expanding Motu 8pre ADAT

A buyer should know certain things.

I know this post has every possibility to get slammed but hear me out…

I currently have a Focusrite 18i8 interface which I feel is totally reasonable and respected interface but it doesn’t do everything I want now. For example, I’d like more inputs but most importantly, more outputs. 

So looking into upgrade options, the logical choice would be to jump up to their 18i20 but then I start researching Behringers version which is just shy of half the price and I’m wondering…”why not…?”.

So I guess my post has two questions. Has anyone else used the Behringer UMC1820 on a serious level, albeit in a non commercial studio? or have you had a similar anecdotal experience of buying the cheaper version and being very happy or very disappointed…?
