I don't really love the nail Nick on this guy and The back lock here, I'm sorry the back isn't particularly smooth There's no slipper clip, and it is a little thinner behind the edge I think it by the edge that it needs to be ugly wise honestly There's not really anything particularly ugly here I mean the price is getting borderline if they raised it at all oh yeah ugly But um on the whole there's a lot of good here, so let's jump into your final conclusion So final conclusion personally slip joints are not my bag. They're not for me They're not where I want to go and they're not the kinds of tools that are best suited to my life But that said this is a pretty damn good knife And it is more importantly a knife that I love seeing because it shows me a lot of good things first off It is a traditional knife made by a modern company using modern materials That is absolutely something that needs to happen, and I cannot wait to see more blending of traditional and modern in every dimension I think that we have moved very far forward in the modern knife market But there is a lot to be gained from looking back at some level, so I love seeing that it is also way outside Benchmade's norm in their comfort zone um Considering that for a while there Benchmade was kind of just the axis lock company seeing them drop a slip Joint is a new trick from an old dog and that really I don't know I hope that this continues to revitalize the brand and to give people an impression of Benchmade is something more dynamic Which is good

 That's a little bit crazy This is the Hindera XM 18 slip joint which is a very very interesting new entrant in that slip joint category And then finally we'll compare it to something a little bit more traditional. This is a GC Wall Street number 99 pattern knife Very very interesting knife here, so um there we go Second a couple of notes here um this is the g10 version in case you can't tell this also comes in my cart And since I picked this guy up our Benchmade has released a new version with a clip point blade Which may be more appealing to some if you don't love the sheepy blade I personally love the sheepy blade, but you know everybody's got different taste and so there you go Let's go ahead and jump into the good the great the bad and the ugly of your Benchmade proper here Oh on the good side first off I appreciate very much that even though this is a slip joint Benchmade has given us the option to disassemble and maintain it Um that's great because I love this assemblies and whatnot But it's also great because it gives you just a much easier time to maintain your tool if the action starts to get sticky or Gritty or something like that um I I absolutely do not miss the pin construction on all the slip joints and That that's absolutely something that's great, so thank you Benchmade for that another thing that I appreciate the construction Is that this is using a phosphor bronze washers? which just means that you're not going to get the same kinds of scratches along the Blade from the liners as you do on knives where the blade I'm sorry with the liners themselves are actually the the the washers there And so that's something I appreciate next thing ergonomically speaking. This is doing pretty good for me Um it fits nicely in the hand these little kind of raised ridges keep it centered in the hand I don't feel like I'm gonna slide out onto it and whatnot um and so ergonomically speaking It's also thick enough that it fills the hand. This is pretty damn good in my hand So I appreciate that speaking of handedness

It is also very nicely made which is another thing that Benchmade really needs to be doing right now It's very legal in many places which is great and frankly knives like this these sorts of Modern and traditional things are a great way to pull in new people from outside of the you know EDC world so to speak Into carrying a pocket knife somebody might start here because that's what grandpappy carried And then they might end up with you know your 940 is something when they realize you know holy crap This is a really useful tool But I kind of want one with a clip or I want one I can open with one hand You know this kind of thing is going to sell a lot of 940s down the road And so I love love love seeing them doing things like this and their collaborations with Shinola and otherwise This is a great idea for the industry in general as for the knife itself I think it's pretty good, but I also think Benchmade is gonna do it better over time because they haven't immediately Created the slip joint to end all slip joints. I hope future versions have a slightly better action Maybe they lose the damn nail Nick and that they can find a way to use a slightly less expensive Butterfly on the blade and get that price down But I'd you know well, I'm dreaming I'd love to see one of these guys in the diamond wood fake wood sort of thing as well as maybe a backlog variant Just just saying that'd be pretty awesome But even still with all that said this is a pretty interesting knife Um, it doesn't fit my life like I said, so it's not a keeper for me But the thing is if you love a good slippy or you're a modern knife guy and you want to try a good slippy I think this is a pretty good option for you And so this may wind up being your proper choice Anyways, I hope that this has been interesting to you that I haven't slipped too far out of reality and that you have yourselves an absolutely Wonderful rest the day by now

The Benchmade Proper Pocketknife: The Full Nick Shabazz Review

 My came very gritty out of the box. I had to open, clean, polish, and lubricate it right out of the bat. It is smooth now, but I don’t think the end user should have to do that on a new knife. The other thing is not so much benchmade’s fault

 I love the blade shape/length and the materials of this knife but it does require some work on my part for it to be usable.

 Also, it's been actually using this thing that the micarta handles are really able to show their strength. Not only do they look good, which is to be fair subjective, but they also give you that extra bit of grip and texture that I so often miss on titanium scales, especially when my hands are starting to get a bit sweaty. However, despite the micarta's capability to provide you with a decent amount of grip, they never hurt or get uncomfortable in hand, unlike for example some other heavy textured G10 handles might do every now and then. Also due to the texture of the handles, I've never had an issue with it falling out of my pocket when sitting down

 The handle itself is a bit weird in terms of its ergonomics. I have medium to large size hands and can get a full grip on it, but the finger positioning doesn't feel pleasant or secure. Because of the curvature of the lower handle, there's just no good place to put your pinky. With that being said, it's honestly something that I only notice when I grab this knife and grip it for no reason

 When I'm actually using the knife and doing any kind of work, I've never had any problems with the shape of the handle. It just seems to work, no matter what I'm trying to use it for. Benchmade 319 Proper - Review After 2 Years Of Use (4K)

It's a slip joint knife

 That thing cost under $12 with free shipping and custom engraved snap and fits perfect. Purchased on Etsy from “theEngraver” with product description: Small Brown Leather Sheath - Fits 3.75 to 4 Inch Knives  Buy it and enjoy it. Even if you only use it occasionally, it’s worth having to hand down do someone later

 - The Micarta handle feels right sized for large sized hands as long as you understand your holding a smaller knife (I know that sounds like common sense but I see complaints all the time from people who seem to think they’re going to get a Crooked River feel with a compact knife). The handle was actually a little smoother than I expected and I’m glad it was. Just right. - I saw a bunch of comments that the slip joint doesn’t quite have the snap that many others do

 I had been carrying either a Swiss army knife or a Leatherman Crunch in my daypack and pocket for years. I have come to realize (other than when traveling, or hiking), that 99.9% of the time in EDC life, you don't need anything but a good sharp blade. Not to big, or small, but stout and sharp

New favorite EDC

 Blade is sharp enough for 90% of those who will carry it. -Typical, boring Benchmade quality. Thing will last a lifetime. -The steel is a tried and tested material

Great knife

 The fit and finish is everything you'd expect from Benchmade. The feel in hand is solid. The blade has a nice, positive stop halfway open and arrives from the factory with a nice edge. It needs a little tweaking for a polished, razor sharp edge, but out of the box, it's more than workable
