The Black Diamond Eldorado is a classic. Despite numerous updates over the years, this single-wall, two-pole tent has withstood a whole lot of blustery winter nights and summit pushes. Most importantly, durability and build quality are superb—it has been used on Everest expeditions and been proven over decades of alpine use. Despite the toughness, the tent weighs just 5 pounds 1 ounce, which is just about as low as you’ll get for a serious mountaineering tent.

Keep in mind that the Eldorado is comfy for one person and gear, but it’s a tight squeeze for two. What’s more, the lack of vestibule certainly limits your options for storage (Black Diamond used to sell an Eldorado-specific vestibule for an additional charge, but it’s no longer available). Finally, internal tent poles are considered by many to be a hassle—they can be difficult to set up and poke holes through the corners of the tent if you aren't careful—and the single-wall build doesn’t breathe nearly as well as a double-wall design. But the weight savings is worth those sacrifices for many alpinists, making the Eldorado the top minimalist 4-season tent on the market. After comparing dozens of 4-season tents, we found the Black Diamond Eldorado to be one of the best models on the market. It strikes the perfect balance between being light and compact while being super durable and weatherproof. It is surprisingly spacious for a two-pole design and matches many three-pole models in terms of comfort. The long and narrow profile holds up well in strong winds, steep sidewalls shed snow easily, and the interior setup method helps distribute forces evenly along the poles. The ToddTex ePTFE fabric found on this tent &#40;and other black diamond models&#41; is one of its most valuable features. It helps minimize condensation by wicking moisture through thousands of tiny micro hairs in the fabric, and it is incredibly durable and tear-resistant to boot.
This tent pitches from the inside, and if you are picturing a struggle, you are probably right, at least for the first few times. It takes more practice to get the hang of than other designs, and during winter months, you must take extra care not to get snow inside the tent during setup. The Eldorado has a single-walled design, small zippered vents, and a tiny awning that leaves much to be desired by way of ventilation, although the wicking fabric help make up for this. This tent falls close to average for weight and is heavier than many other two-pole models.  You know the biggest con to this tent is the price $ 700 is extremely pricey, but for a true four season tent it's one of the lighter options out on the market, single walled, extremely strong when it comes to the cons for this tent. There are a few for one thing: this is not compact right. When you break this thing down and you fold it up, it is going to take up some space inside of your backpack. While it offers you good ventilation, it does offer you great ventilation

 The zippers have been treated as you can see that wind is definitely pulling the tent. That'S why you have to stake it out right and that's not even a strong gust, but the zippers have been treated with silicone, so they are water-resistant very, very water-resistant. Once you have this thing set up, there are covers that go over the zippers, so you don't have to worry about water is coming in. This tent does come with guidelines and it does come with stakes

 It yourself, Black Diamond, does include the seam sealer, so yeah, it's kind of a pain in the butt. To be honest with you, it's not the most difficult thing ever, I kind of like doing it. To be honest, it definitely turns off a lot of possible buyers, because a lot of people simply do not want to do this themselves. My advice for Black Diamond is to start seam sealing it themselves

 As you can see, it is oversized, so it's very easy to roll up this tent and put it inside of it even with gloves on even when it's covered in ice. I am very appreciative of that fact, so many tent companies make their stuff sacks too small. So if you're wearing gloves things aren't going well, it's super windy. They could be extremely difficult, not this one, by the way

 So we're almost done. Let'S move to the backside here now: one thing that will make this a little bit easy once you have your fingers behind the pole, just scoot your fingers down to the next spot. Do the ply scoop down, tie scoot down, tie so folks, just like that. It is all set up

 You can set this tent up so quickly, once you've had some practice with it. I think my best time I've actually been timing myself over the last couple of weeks, while I've been using this tent and at the moment, I'm right at two and a half minutes to set up so that that's pretty quick, all right grab your tent, throw it On the ground, get your poles ready: let's do it so roll out the hitch unfold it now that you have the tent out it's time for the poles. The first pole goes from left to the right back side, so we'll take the second hole, we'll put it to the side. Let'S work on that first Pole and I always go from the left front to the right back you're going to do an X figuration with this right

 Why do I go from left to the back right? No, real reason! That'S just how I do it! Okay, right! So you take the pole, you slide it in and connect it to the grommet. That'S in the back of this pick once you have that done. It is time to begin pushing the pole into the tenant cells, grab the pole towards the bottom and pull that inside of your tent, just like so make sure to hold on to the pole real good, because you don't want that tension to push through the bottom Of your tent through the floor, I've never had that happen, but I assume that it could happen because the pole is definitely tight, so take that in and put it in the grommet in this left top corner. Alright

 It is time to begin pushing the pole into the tenant cells, grab the pole towards the bottom and pull that inside of your tent, just like so make sure to hold on to the pole real good, because you don't want that tension to push through the bottom Of your tent through the floor, I've never had that happen, but I assume that it could happen because the pole is definitely tight, so take that in and put it in the grommet in this left top corner. Alright. Well, that was super simple, that took 20 seconds right, make sure that the pole is in the grommet at both in all right folks. One pole in super simple, go ahead and grab your second pole, this one's going from the right side to the back left

What a difference a few pounds make - I have been toting around my old North Face 4 season tent not only 3 lbs. heavier but the space needed in my pack was nearly twice the size!! This tent is perfect for the light and fast adventurer.
