  I don't know if it's pricey for a card game, but what I'm paying for is board game fun and this baby delivers! Highly recommended to anybody.  As for learning the game, I recommend playing a couple hands as you're reading the rules. The rules are very brief and when you play a hand while reading through the rules, you can very quickly pick up the idea of what you're supposed to be doing.  Games I love include Dominion, Agricola, Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, Settlers of Catan, and Alhambra

  If you don't trade well or if you try to screw over your opponents, you'll probably not do too well in the trading game. But you will have a lot of: "What are you gonna give me for this blue bean?" "I've got nothing to give you" "Then you're not getting it" "Fine, then plant it yourself. Looks like you'll have to harvest early" "Anybody else want this blue bean?" "See?" "See what? The Meat is in the trading

I had discussions in the past where we identified designers who we love games by, but also tend to release a lot of sub-par games along with their masterpieces.
For example I can confidently buy games by Vital Lacerda without even having to look at a review.
 
On the other hand one of my favorite designers is Martin Wallace, but he is also a designer that I don't immediately buy games from, I always have to do research before I buy from him, specially when he branches out in genres. He designed Wildlands which completely felt flat for me (which I believe a lot of people actually like this game though).

You start with two bean fields to plant in (only one type of bean per field at a time) and the catcher is that you can NOT change the order of the cards in your hand

 Games take about 45 minutes, but there is constant talking and trading so you dont really feel downtime at any one point.  However, I recently played this game with the max recommended 7 people and did not enjoy it! The game was very slow, and with so many people throwing out trades to the active player it takes a while on each person's turn. Worse if that if you do not have anything to trade with the active player, you may have to sit for a while and let other people hash out their trades. While it can be fun to observe others arguing over whose trade is the better deal, it can get tiring and drawn out with 7 people

Great board game for all ages, best for 3-5 players

I seriously love this game. It's highly interactive, relatively simple to explain (some people have some trouble getting around the fixed card arragement, but sitll very simple), i would argue highly thematic (planting beans! Literally!), it has quite the luck but it can be mitigated vía clever trading. Only downside i can find is the artwork is a bit outdated and could use an overhaul. Overall I really enjoy playing this game with anyone, probably one o f my top 3 games ever. I've tried a lot of other card games and haven't found any game quite like Bohnanza. Truly a great game.

Bohnanza is the best card game EVER. Change my mind!

 When you only have two slots to fill (or a third if you buy it), you may have to get rid of a type of bean sooner than you want to. There are lots of things to consider about the order in which you play your cards so that you can mitigate these things. In that way, you'd be able to maximize your points.  As far as the components go, it's a lot of cards

 Plant your beans in one of two slots, make them grow, and harvest them. The more beans that you have, the more points that you'll get. Stacks of beans may take more or fewer beans to get points depending on how common the bean cards are in the deck. There are lots of decisions to be made

 Just a little silly.  The rule book is very clear and easy to follow. There is nothing that we found to be ambiguous. The game does support as many players as it says, and they took the time to consider the various minor rule changes to accommodate such a wide range of players

A fun card game with a good sense of humor

 The strategy isn't too difficult, but if you aren't in the mood for a deeply involved, hours long game then this is perfect. I would put it nearly on par with7 Wonders Game for depth of strategy (although 7 Wonders is a little more difficult as there are many more rules).  The first time through this game was a little difficult to understand the dynamic, but now I am able to teach a table full of beginners in about 10 minutes. Being a card only game, setup time is virtually non-existent

Fun game, simple & easy to learn

" Honestly, the rules are so different that it's hard to remember what to do on your turn and hard to be certain you're playing it right. That said, bean addicts are bean addicts, so it's nice to have the option.
