 Hello snowboarders of the internet. I'm your host Averyn Lefebvre and this is top fives the only weekly top five show in snowboarding currently So someone else jumps on this trend Anyways in this episode the top five free ride bindings of 2020 2021. So let's dive right into this number five the now drives Some of you are probably saying why not the oDrive because well, that's overpriced So for the everyman you get the now drive Slightly stiffer, but still has no skate technology. What is skate tech? If you gotta ask you're not ready for it No, seriously skate tech is just a differentiation of power drive So it gives you more power to the toe or the heel depending on which edge you're actually engaging on the snowboard and And well, the straps are pretty solid although some people do tend to flip them a little bit When they need them to fit a little better on certain boot shapes, that's why they're number five number four the ride a 10 Now this binding is stiff because it's full aluminum and well full aluminum isn't for everyone But for someone like you it might be what you need What that means is you've got a stiffer base plate which is going to give you more power and drive down Into the board especially for edge control, but you're also going to feel more vibrations and chatter as well Full aluminum isn't really going to be the best at dampening number three The Union Atlas completely overhauled for this year So, you know more power and drive into it what you get is an old-school feeling stiffer Freeride binding you have a bigger disc on there which makes a bigger dead spot on your foot So if you're one of those old-school guys that likes that there you go Straps are revamped and they do contour better around a boot Which is nice for holding you in what I like is that they do have the camber disc mount system So that it's a dual washer So when you actually tighten the binding down it creates a more uniform flex right under foot Is this going to be the binding for everyone? Probably not but for the old-school freeride guy, they're gonna love it number two Replacing the Rome Targa is the Rome cleaver Basically all the high-end stuff you could get from Rome bindings fully put into one Unit so you get their new heel straps

 You got a full wrap heel cup, which is going to allow for more Lateral drive then flex in the binding you got d3o dampening in there Basically, you want to send it hard? Here you go Honorable mentions all great bindings, but just barely didn't make it on this list the nitro phantom Carver the Jones Apollo The flow nx2 cx hybrid. Yeah, that's a mouthful But hey, sometimes you got to give the back door a try all great bindings But just barely didn't make it on this list and the number one freeride binding for 2020 2021 is the Burton cartel X why because it's the Burton cartel X it's tried It's true. You know what you're gonna get sure the X moniker is new for Burton this year But let's be honest all they did was merge their stiffer freeride bindings into one unibody construction solid straps Reflex discs so you can get some board feel underfoot Overall, it's a binding for hard charging. It's got the Burton name on it

What are the “go to“ bindings these days ?

Solid

 The more connection you have to your high back the more control you have from toe to heel edge. So overall there's a lot of great features in this binding it is definitely on the stiffer side of things a lot of things to keep you comfortable and a lot of features to keep you having great response and board feel underneath your foot.  The Cartel X is going to be our go-to team binding. Basically it's an improvement of the current season Cartel, 45% nylon short glass blend. It's got our Super Grip 2.0 cap strap, smooth glide dual component buckles, obviously it's got the flex slider, B3 gel that dampen the ride and prevent those heel bruises and a new feature, the suspension hammock

 So this thing oscillates to grip your boot from the back so you don't have to do your boots quite as tight and choke your foot. It's about a 7 out of 10 on the flex scale, comes in at $299, check it out.

2020 - 2021 Burton Cartel X Snowboard Binding Review

I’ve got a pair of bindings I love in the burton genesis X est, but I’m want to branch out to non channel boards, and burton doesn’t make the X version anymore or I’d just pick up the reflex model. Anyone got a good comp, medium stiff, with good supportive straps and a damper than average feel?

Binding suggestions

 What that does is allows the binding to flex across the width there. That's very hard to see on the camera when you do it but what that's going to do is when the board flexes through the turn the binding is going to flex with the board so the whole set up is going to feel a little bit more natural and you're going to avoid having stiffer zones under the binding and that's just going to make the board turn and feel a lot more predictable and a lot more flowing I think is probably the easiest way to describe it. Now construction wise on this utilises a 45% glass nylon composite. Now that 45% glass is what makes this binding the stiffest binding in the non carbon collection

 The Cartel X is in fact the stiffest non carbon base plate in the Burton binding collection. So that makes it perfect for riders who just want instant reaction and who want a really high performance binding that's just going to deliver great response and control in pretty much any kind of terrain and any kind of conditions. So starting off with the base plate utilises Burton's single component reflex design. Now what the reflex design does is almost splits the binding base plate into two

 You've got an asymmetric shape with a little bit of wing on the side. Again that is just going to pick up more energy transfer and just create a slightly more responsive high back. Padding at the top of the high back just going to remove any kind of high back bite from the tops of your legs and just again make it more comfortable. What you've also got in here is the heel hammock

Of those, I definitely agree with the above, Cartel is a great binding. No reason why you should limit yourself to just Burton though, I recommend Union Bindings personally. The Force is a great do everything binding. Boots all fit differently so you need to go see a boot fitter if you don’t know what profile foot you have

Cartel vs Step On vs Malavita

I’ve only ever rode rentals, looking to buy my own board this season. There’s so many options for good all mountain boards. I’ll be riding on the east coast(ice coast), won’t be hitting much park. Any good recommendations?
