fast and light, not much to complain except...

My Garage got broken into and it got stolen so I bought a Cannondale Topstone 2 with 40mm tyres and a Redshift stem, based off comfort alone I dont think I could go back to my road bike. Like you said I spent more time constantly scanning ahead for anything that will make me fall off; meanwhile my gravel bike I don't watch for anything and got to do a cool gravel ride this week where I rode through a wetlands and saw Kangaroos, Swans and Pelicans - something I'd never experience on my Roadie.

Started road cycling in 2017 - and I was really into it, going fast, and getting PBs on strava, ettc

Picked up my gravel bike with the intent of using it for off road only, right before the first locdowns started.  Then it turned into using it as my all rounder and getting road wheels to swap - now I just use it for evertything with gravel set up 

PROS

   Bigger tires means I don't have a mini heart attack when debris comes up, pot holes, storm grates, big sticks - take your pick - not always possible to manuver around  on narrow roads with passing traffic

   Relaxed geomotry means Im more comfortable and less sore doing longer rides

Bigger tires again; also reduces the risk of a puntcure tenfold - and i HATE punctures

I can do hybrid rirdes, theres one dirt, and one gravel trail very close to me, so I can add up to 20 miles of off road riding to my road routes if I want to do a big ride

   My road bike sits in my basement on the stationary trainer and I dont have to move shit around from the grage to the trainer,  or swap tires when I can only do an indoor session, ableit because of the weather or I'm too busy

   Gravel bikes just look dope

Issues with mounts & mounting locations

 I've crashed it while charging a steep single track section, no damage to the bike it's super sturdy. I think this is a great bike and doesn't break the bank while still having solid components. The only con is that it's a bit heavy, but a few upgrades in the future will help with that.

Solid all around bike

Newb here, never had a quality bike besides the huffy mountain bike from Walmart many of us grew up with in the 90s. I've gotten into researching what bike I think I want and as per the usual, I started increasing my price range as I learned more and more and kept saying "ooh, I want that." 

I've got 3 little boys, 2 of which are learning to ride on training wheels at the moment. The idea is for my wife and I to get bikes so we can go on family bike rides at parks near our house.  I also intend to do some solo riding both on paved roads and on gravel or packed dirt. Also, I wanna go fast!

My price range started around $700 but then slowly creeped up to $2500 (aforementioned) based on my new found need for all the features a newb doesn't need in his first gravel bike. Realistically though I'd like to stay below $1500.  

A few contenders I've been looking at:

1. Poseidon X
2. Poseidon Redwood
3. Cannondale Topstone 4
4. Salsa Journeyman
5. Giant Revolt
6. Giant Roam 3

Help me find my "Dad" bike

This is a fantastic all rounder.  The sturdy wheels, large volume tires, relaxed geometry and multiple attachment points make it an ideal urban commuter and adventure seeker.  It manages to be fairly fast and supremely comfortable at the same time while maintaining a very compelling price point considering the componentry.  The only downside is the weight, but if you are super concerned about a pound or two, you can always skip lunch!

Perfect Affordable All Rounder

Personally I  just went from a Cannondale Topstone AL to Endurace CF SL 8.  'similar' geometry but so much lighter with CF .

Basically, I'm looking for the perfect bike to knock out a fast 50 mile ride on mostly pavement. I say endurance bike because I'd like something with clearance to get some 32mm tires on for the rougher roads and occasional dirt. 

I was lucky enough to grab a Canyon Ultimate earlier in the year, but ended up returning it due to some trainer compatibility issues. It was great, but I don't really need something that aggressive and would prefer disc brakes.

Here are the bikes I'm looking at:

Giant Defy Advanced 2 - $2700

Giant TCR Advanced 2 - $2700

Canyon Endurace AL 7 - $1900

Canyon Endurace CF SL 7 - $2600

Would it be better to go aluminum and use the extra savings on some nice wheels &amp; a power meter? The fact that nothing is actually in stock means I have plenty of time to change my mind on what I want. Any feedback would be much appreciated!!
