 Just a quick one when I had I've had to change the front disc because when I spun the wheel I could see the disc was slightly wobbling and it's wearing the pads out both sides because as you're riding the pads it's getting hit by the disc so I put a new disc on and it's bedded in there so it's nice and sharp so last little bit up here back into Wumbin and then home but the bike is really good I'm very impressed with this and it's budget save the pennies tapas like Asda. See you in a bit. This is surprisingly dry for this time of year and on this track because it's normally churned up by the horse's hooves because it's a bridle and it's been rained on because there's loads of little side tracks that you can take because of the mud so like here there is a track to my right but to be honest I'm quite impressed that it's this nice there you go see mud there so you have a little bypass track to go around. Sad news guys Pedro's gone he's just rode up from down there and this was the enclosure where he used to be and I noticed a bit of fence missing I thought oh he's probably uh in like a pen or something but no Pedro and no Pedro's dad now last time we came the dad on the left wasn't here so he's obviously gone perhaps he's in um whatchamacallit is it llama heaven anyway don't forget to give me the thumbs up um click the ding dong and subscribe and yeah definitely worth buying a budget hardtail for the winter what what can I say thanks guys um hasta pronto ciao

I'm curious to know peoples opinion on what a bike must have to be considered "Entry Level". 

I will define "Entry Level" as a rider must be able to have a good time and not break the bike on Blue level trails. Blacks can be ridden in a pinch. 

I will go in order of importance.

1) Threadless headset and named brand Disc brakes at least on the front. With the exception of some very old (Expensive at the time) bikes, I think anything less than this is simply dangerous. 

2) If suspension is present components should be over $200 at retail. Think Rockshocks Recon, Suntour Epixon range. I think full Ridged can be acceptable as well, but these bikes would be uncommon to find new and at a beginner price point. 

3) Rims should be named brand or from a higher end OEM. Basically just no white box stuff. Double Walled. 

4) Under 40Lb

5) Clutch Derailleur 

6) 1x drive train, 8 or more Gears.

 But for me, it's really good. And speaking of frame size, I didn't remove the foam on the top. I put it on the ladder. The top tube, from the center of the top tube to the ground, the difference between the small and medium is only 5 cm

 But of course, we want to go down the road Shimano first. But not at this time. Not yet. We'll use the right one

Entry-level Mtb Help

Bike is a Cannondale Trail SL3, with a one-by drivetrain. My first bike with one-by, and I'm absolutely loving it.

I am surprising my partner with a bike for his birthday in a few weeks and my price range is about $600. He will likely use this bike for a mix of sidewalks, paved roads, and biking trails. 

He is definitely a beginner biker and has never owned a decent bike before. I want to get him something decent that he can keep for awhile, but obviously my budget isn’t big enough for something super nice. He is about 5’11 and 190 pounds if that is helpful.

I end up having to explain this to people a lot so I guess it would be a good idea to post it here.

While the mountain biking community is absolutely amazing and super supportive, there can be a little toxicity around what bike your friend has or cool fork or cassette or whatever. 

For those who may be lurking around here and really want to get into mountain biking, You do not need a good bike to start. I actually recommend starting on a "bad" bike as it teaches you many things you would not be able to learn on a super nice bike.

For example, I started on a trek marlin, which lasted me two years and served me very well. I rode it in lots and lots of tech (trails with lots of things like roots and rocks that you ride through), and some jumps as well. 

This is stuff one would say "Oh you can't ride on that with a hardtail, you need a full suspension!". That's very wrong and it's the reason I have the skills I have today. 

Hardtails don't get much grip, so I was able to learn to get grip out of nowhere and even ride without much of it. 

There was practically no suspension, so I had to learn how to choose proper lines and be able to deal with lots of big bumps and such.

Parts were constantly breaking, so I learned how to deal and cope and also proper bike maintenance. 

The bike was super heavy, so I developed the muscle to be able to climb fast with it.

There was no dropper post, so I had to learn to move around the bike with the seat in the way. 

Going on jumps built badly could end up badly, so I learned how to land in the toughest situations.

This is only a little bit I have learned after being on a "bad" bike. 

So for those who want to get into MTB, just take that bike that was sitting in your garage or a cheap one that you can buy, I promise you will be a 10x better rider than if you were on a 10 thousand dollar bike. 

The bike does not make you better, practice will.
