  NOTE #2: Gray goes at a much different rate than the other colors, thus you wouldn't want to measure average speed of ink usage based on gray.  NOTE #3: For those wondering about cleaning/maintenance routine which uses a lot of ink, this model range of Canon inkjet doesn't do a big cleaning/purging after it prints, in fact that routine can only be fired-off on purpose manually. You are usually hearing head realignment. However, if you UNPLUG AND PLUG the printer it is supposed to force it to "prime the head" to keep the ink from clogging the print head and this uses a little ink (even for B&W)

 Here are 6 things you can do to mitigate this:  - Buy the XL versions of the ink, this is supposed to reduce the cost per color page to a very competitive 13-14 cents per page (vs. 16-19 cents). I've seen reputable reviewers put the cost as low as 9-12 cents per color page, so the full real world range might be 9-14 cents per reasonably covered color page depending on many factors.  - As referred to above, don't choose to print Grayscale if printing black and white, unless color reproduction accuracy of shades of black is far more important than ink conservation for that printout

 But as it is, I have to toss a perfectly good printer in the garbage. I spoke to Canon, or rather I tried to speak to Canon's Service Dept as instructed to do by the message on the LED screen but they refused to speak with me unless I paid the $20 fee for their Service Plan. I asked the person on the phone, as they were hanging up on me, if they'd ever encountered the concept of "penny wise and pound foolish. I got no response beyond the click of a disconnecting phone line

Canon Printers, in my experience give you no problems at all while they're working. Canon brand ink is so OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive as to be silly especially when you consider the fact that there are plenty of very good generic ink manufacturers out there whose cartridges are recognized by the printer as genuine Canon. THE BIG PROBLEMS are price, I paid $549 for the MG6820 in 2016 and the fact that after four (4) years of normal use the INK SPONGE was full and that was it folks, end of the printer. The ink sponge catches the tiny bits of waste ink that happen every time the ink-jet sprays its ink onto the paper

The sponge sits atop a small plastic bucket at the very back of the MG6820, right in front of the right hinge of the platter cover. It begs the question, WHY CAN'T I JUST EMPTY the ink sponge and its tank? Because that way you could go on using your $549 printer for another four (4) or who knows, perhaps another eight (8) years because Canon printers really are made THAT well

Very Reliable Until It Self-Destructs

 For the massive footprint this printer takes up in my living room, I'm surprised there wasn't room to cram a USB port on the front.  I'm also underwhelmed by the color output, as the colors are too dark and don't match source material. I mostly print in BW, but I expected more from a Canon product.

This printer prints great and there is a generic ink that is really inexpensive compared to the regular brand. It also does a great job scanning. This would be a 5-star printer if the darn thing would just stay connected to my computer through an entire printing process. It's really annoying getting a half printed page and then have to go back and re-print it

It's quite annoying but other than that it is a typical great ...

 The printer doesn't seem to retain the network or network password. The screen to enter the password is small and is best entered with a stylus or pen.  The print quality is good and outside or having to reconnect to the network with every use this is a good printer.

 Definitely high quality prints. However, it eats ink very, very quickly. And the ink is quite expensive, compared to other brands. Also, not easy to wirelessly print whatsoever
