Filed a claim with home owners insurance and got the Canyon Spectral. This is the bike I needed!! no more OTB feeling and more suited for the trails i like to ride. It's such a blast to ride.

One thing that makes comparisons hard with Trek is that nearly all the parts are house-brand stuff, so there's no way to know what they quality of it is, thought you can be assured it's going to be good. But take tires for instance, most brands stock Maxxis or WTB or something you can easily find the price and peoples' thoughts on....not as easy with their Bontrager stuff. As a point of comparison the Canyon Spectral 5 is priced about £500 less for a similar if not better build out.

For example, I started on a cheap hardtail, riding XC trails and slowly discovering more all-mountain/enduro stuff. When I upgraded I ended up getting a long travel trail bike (or short travel enduro) in the Canyon Spectral thinking I'd still be spending most my riding at my local XC focussed trails and a couple of trips a month to the enduro stuff. It's great but I *really* prefer the hardcore enduro riding and my actual experience now is that I make those trips to the hardcore enduro spots a few times a week and NEVER hit the XC stuff, so I would have preferred something a bit burlier.

No major complaints with it, I just want something that can handle trips to the bike park and progressing to bigger jumps/drops. Ideally I’d like to keep the price under $4000. Some preferences I have are 29” wheels, 150+mm of travel, and mineral oil brakes (not DOT fluid). Some bikes I’ve been eyeing are the Polygon N9, Trek Slash 7, Canyon Spectral 7, Giant Trance x 29 2.
