Cartier Tank Solo

What I really like about this watch is that it echoes the theme of Le Petit Prince that you can find on Montblanc replica pens.

Also of interest, the “secret” Cartier signature is embedded in the Roman numeral 8 as opposed to the 7 or 10 (probably because the 7 is missing from the dial!). I could have probably gone for the large model (27x35) and it would’ve fit just fine on my 6.5 inch wrist, but I preferred the small (24x31) because it’s more in line with the classic Tank proportions. Yes, this is a quartz watch, but I really don’t mind quartz at all, especially for a watch that stands more for iconic design than watchmaking excellence. And yes, this (and all Tank Solos in small) are marketed as ladies watches…but like, who cares?!.

If I were forced to downsize my collection to two watches, I would choose my Omega Speedmaster Professional and Cartier Tank XL Solo. The Speedy is so versatile and can be worn in just about any setting. The Tank is a classic dress watch that looks great with a suit, but can be worn with the right casual outfits as well. These two watches cover all the bases for what I need: round and rectangular, black dial and white dial, stainless steel bracelet and leather band.

The watch is absolutely beautiful. However, I am not sure with its price if I want to go that far. I wouldn't mind the quartz movement version which is about 2 grand cheaper, but it is still a hefty sum. The one thing that bothers me is that the Tank Solo in stainless steel is much more affordable, and still a beautiful watch, but the dimensions are just oh-so-a-tad-bit bigger than the Louis Cartier, which makes, for some reason, me want the Louis Cartier even more (they must do this on purpose!).

This Tank Solo XL is my first purchase of 2020. I planned to add a World Timer / GMT as the main addition but have been on the lookout for a good dress watch. I have off late been smitten by rectangular watches and really wanted to add one to the collection. I got a decent deal on this one and for the History that the brand represents, I thought it would be a good thing to add a Cartier to the collection.

You can really see how clean the printing is on the dial and how much the blues sword hands can pop out at you. I really wish this watch had a guilloche dial but I understand that those dials are reserved for Cartier’s higher end mechanical pieces. This Tank comes with a quartz movement inside. It doesn’t bother me at all as I bought the watch more for its history and design.

Cartier Tank Solo Large - I had never really admired tank watches, the roman numerals had always put me off. I'm not sure what happened in the last few years but my tastes changed and I realised how timeless they look and it was something that I wanted to add to my collection.

It's really not difficult to read the time, and I like how the oversized case (27mm x 46mm) wears on my wrist. I've worn this in work clothes and casual wear, and it didn't feel out of place at all in either setting. **Cartier Tank Solo:**.
