 This is their Grivory Handle material It's super grippy. That's something. I've really appreciated from cold steel for a long time It's a rubber type And when your hands are wet even it's still pretty Grippy for lack of better words. I just love the shape of this Always have that's why I wanted to get one Let me give you a couple size comparisons I actually have the se5 still I actually have the se5 still out here from yesterday So we'll just throw that guy up there first So a bit longer I would say that this is the more camp knife but this could certainly be used as a camp knife as well Because it's going to be plenty strong it's not quite as thick If I didn't mention the thickness it is point two zero I think I mentioned that but so you can see it is a a bit thinner But it gives you a little bit more reach Just a little bit different, you know cutting angle and whatnot

 I really enjoy this super solid So I thought I would share So let me know what you think uh about fixed blades just in general And I will put a link in the description below to my fixed blade playlist so you can see there's probably I don't know four or five videos.  I do like a tanto blade Kind of asian flair, I guess a little bit. This is kind of like a samurai sword mini style, I guess you could say So just kind of a cool knife you can kind of choke up on it a little bit if you needed to but you're still You know, you're not going to do fine detail, but I don't know it feels good in the hand. Sharp, Great Price but have grind issue.

 Stick making some notches build a couple Spears that type of thing and see if the Recon tanto can compete with the SRK and really, if either of these knives are good to be taking out in the woods in general, because they definitely have more of a combat Soldier knife feel to them so, but I think a lot of you at the crazy price point of between 40 and 50 dollars, which will have links in description below over to Amazon. It'S a great way to help support the channel. These things have a lot of Appeal, curb appeal when you're looking at more of a combat style knife, so we're gon na do a lot of review and a lot of tests and a lot of concept discussion. Today, as we look at the Recon tanto from Cold Steel and running it up against its brother, the SRK

 They can do survival tasks if need be. That means just surviving, but the hollow grinds and just the geometries of being combat style blades with clip points, and you know the hollow grinds and tan toes and all that these are definitely more prone to be better suited. You know in the military and law enforcement, maybe a bug-out bag if you're in a urban environment. You know something like that is really where they're gon na shine

 So just be aware of that, if you're in high human environments, you're gon na have to you know, take care of the edge a lot, that's uncoated, and these just tend to rust. This is the nature of high carbon. The other thing that you may notice that we talked about when we did the SRK video is that they have brought in the ricasso. The ricasso used to be three quarters of an inch long, almost an inch long they've brought this now back to

 So we have the SRK versus the Recon tanto today and we're gon na use these guys. In a lot of you know, slicing, you know, nylon rope stabbing Prime we're gon na do a lot of stuff like that, but I also wanted to take both of these knives together out into the woods and do some basic survival tasks feather. Recon Tanto or SRK by Cold Steel

 Cold Steel could easily resolve the issue simply by including QR code that can be verified at their web site. I suppose that that's too difficult for them or they just don't care maybe they sell their second quality items to distributors that then enter them into the normal supply channels. Some people might say that couldn't happen on Amazon and I cannot say with 100% certainty that it does although I'm certain of it. If counterfeit pharmaceutical medications can enter the supply chain anything can!  Ok so the Pros: Solid knife I like the hollow ground tanto blade Seems to be solidly built It came sharp could be sharper  The Cons Handle is to short and boxy for even medium sized hands Knife is extremely front heavy Finger guard and the shape of the rear of the grip make it very difficult to change your grip The grind is uneven The sheath is junk It feels like the grip would slip if it were covered in oil or similar fluid maybe that's why it has a plastic finger guard

  For the price it's OK I wouldn't buy it again I'm still giving it 4 stars hard to find a $30 knife in this range.

  One thing that struck me as odd about this blade is that the blade was covered in oil and seems to be in the sheath I've never seen that before on any cold steel item I've ever Purchased in the past. Also the uneven grind makes me suspect the knife I received could possibly be a 2nd quality item from Cold Steel.  For the price it's OK I wouldn't buy it again I'm still giving it 4 stars hard to find a $30 knife in this range.

 I'M going to be taking this too. On my camping trips, you've seen you're getting a little bit more blade length. This is actually got a hologram too. I could see it in there now

 You know slim down five and a half inch blade it's 4.4 ounces. I mean it's really lightweight. I really like it the recon tanto

 It'S got their traction coating on there and then the coburn. You can see it's it's designed as a boot knife. I just really like this. I i think this one i'm going to actually use more when i'm not camping, i'm going to try to carry this as an edc blade, it's 3

 Therefore, the first modification I'm going to do is cut off this retention, strap because I don't need it, I don't like it. I never have it on anything and I will melt that down. That'S a good of lighter here, because it's solid, it's not coming out. I don't like things strapped or strapped around the handle

 It'S a cool knife. It doesn't cost a lot of money. The the sheath is is not like some fancy Kardec sheath, but it's plenty good. That'S like you, don't have to immediately rush out and rish eat that or anything like that

 I already got the biggest one. I think just for that. This right here is basically just a test to the toughness of the book of the blade it did not break so there's that now I would not normally choose this to be my little damp. There'S no way that's unless we cut something else, it's not something that I would normally choose to be my feather sticking knife, but it's actually making some very fine feathers, not all not all knives

 Three, I'm just gon na say it strike three two one. So a lot of people are going to look at this and they're like well. I can do this all right and that's I'm better knives and for this whatever you know, we've talked about this before everybody's got different subjective opinions, different subjective realities, different subjective needs, not these videos don't mean every single person has to like something or they need to Buy something or it's gon na be perfect for them, but it gives you a chance to see them. As I said before, I do believe the SRK is the one it's going to be better suited for people that are fans of this channel and it's it's gon na be about the same price as this same materials same everything

Review of Cold Steel 35 AM San Mai Tanto Knife - San Mai blade is a " harder" center layer of steel sandwiched between two "softer" layers - the harder center for improved edge retention with the softer outer layers to provide more flexibility to resist breakage if blade is bent / flexed during heavy cutting tasks. The handle is made of a soft rubber like material and feels comfortable in bare hand when cutting.. Overall the knife appears to be well made - blade edge has an even grind and was sharp out of box

 Designed more for self defense and maybe hunting, but not the best blade design for most camp chores. The blade is a bit too long and thick for smaller, finer cutting tasks.

It'S a thick blade, so the tip should hold up some steps. So, oh so all right, let's check the tip still intact, yep, so [, Music, ], okay, now the edge so so so. Okay, so all right, [, Music, ]! So the rec contento, the edge, is a little bit dull. There is not no major damage at the edge and the tip is, i would say, at 98 percent, maybe a tiny, tiny fracture at the at the top of the tip, but nice and serious

 So here it broke at the tip yeah, but it's uh. It'S still usable now it looks like el cheta and mini mini chatter recontent and yes, the edge is yes, it's gone, but that's fine because it's a prick, let's see if we can break it anymore: [, Music, ], [, Music, ] e e, [, Music, ] e. Oh yeah, it's broke like the pekka, so now the the red container from cold steel uh. This cost me about 60 euro at lamia

com uh for the price. It'S a fine knife for the price, it's okay uh! It did a pretty good job with the tip stabbing at the car, because the tip is not not too much broken. Also, the tip test in the wood was okay and then it broke at the brick. It was okay break

COLD STEEL RECON TANTO SK5 - DESTRUCTION TEST -UNTIL IT BREAKS- TIP TEST EXTREME -KNIFE TORTURE TEST

 This is a very stout blade. It's roughly a 1/4 inch thick which is insanely hard to find a knife with it being only 7 inches long. The grip is nice and comfortable being a semi hard rubber with cross cut checkering. The only problem I have with it is I didn't like the length of the handle

 Felt a little short. If there was a half inch added on the handle length, it would be the perfect knife and I would give it all five stars.
