Where to from Hank??

For example, the Convoy M1 competes very closely with the Noctigon KR1: It actually has slightly better performance and very similar build quality but is half the price and has much more options for emitters and drivers, I have both and prefer the M1. In my eyes Convoy is even more enthusiast oriented than Emisar/Noctigon because of how modding friendly they are and how many different drivers are available for them.

Convoy M1 W2.2 vs Noctigon KR1 W2 comparison with some throw measurements and beamshots

Overall I’m pretty happy with the Convoy M1, especially for the price. I think I’d like to do another build with the H17Fx like u/tactical_grizzly and [his since it looks like it has active thermal regulation and some neat shortcuts. If you don’t want to build a light, you should be able to ask Simon for a M1 with CULPM1 and the [8A ramping for a very similar performance.

Looking for recommendations on a sub $50 light

Convoy M1 or C8+ with CSLNM1 LED's are going to get you about 700 or so lumens, but throw those lumens very well. They can struggle a bit in more lit conditions at distance, but otherwise are really great lights for throwing. The M1 is just about pants-pocketable, I use a tool pocket on my jeans for it regularly and use a flashlight holster when I want to put it on my belt.

Have a KR1 but wish it was more tacticool? Try a Convoy M1 with Osram W1!

Throw is slightly more than the KR1 W2 (100000cd/632m throw) but if the KR1 also had a W1 I think they would be neck and neck, as the reflectors diameter is the same but M1 is a little deeper. I have some [LD-A4 drivers from on the way along with a [W1 mounted on a MCPCB with separate temperature that I think I'll swap into the M1 and then fully pot the light with [this potting for maximum durability. Edit: the beamshots aren't that great, I need some more distance to really show the beams.
