So I was always a Garmin enthusiast, but I have to say, I've been converted by this one because of the insane battery life compared to my previous, very old Forerunner 225. So I know that's not a direct comparison to the Apex

 But with Garmin's prices starting at £470, you can save yourself a massive £170 if you can just make do with a simple breadcrumb trail. Finally, number five. So at £300, the price for the 46 millimetre Apex is the best on the market right now for an easy to use watch with such an impressive array of functions and most of all that insane battery life. There is a 42 millimetre version, which is cheaper at £270, but the battery life isn't as long and the stats are on the screen just now

 But remember, if you change mode, you do have to customize that options data screens individually. It doesn't just apply your perfect data screen to every sport. Number three, interval training sessions. So one essential feature for runners is the ability to program an interval session where the watch beeps at you when you've run, say, a 60 second interval and then beeps at you again when you've had a 30 second recovery

 So there are two buttons and there's also this little dial over here, similar to what Apple watches have. So you could press this dial in to select, right, and then it'll bring you to your sports profile screen. So you can pick whatever sports you want and it does have a pretty good amount of sports on here, which they do update a lot. So they're always adding different sports profiles on here and then there is this other button on the bottom

 This is not a smart watch. This is a fitness watch. So if you're looking for smart features such as music, as other apps, such as messaging on your watch or calling your watch, you can't do that with this. This is going to be strictly a fitness watch

 I like the 46 millimeter more than the 42 because I do have a big wrist. I am 5'11, 240 pounds. I just think that a bigger watch looks better. I mean a bigger watch face

 And obviously all the specs that are packed into it is something I want to talk to you guys about a little today. People ask me a lot about watches. What should I go for? What should I choose? One of the main things I've always got back to people about is just obviously make sure it's got the battery life for what you need it for. Battery life is certainly an important factor when it comes to your watch, especially if you are into ultra racing or if you're just training very regularly throughout the week

 And that's more of a precautionary measure if I'm going out for a long run and it's down to maybe like 10% or something at that point. I want to make sure obviously it's not going to run out within the run, but the battery life is certainly really impressive and definitely a real big plus about this watch for the price point to have a battery life that is that long is pretty spectacular. And we'll talk in 35 hours on normal tracking. So we're not talking about, you know, every 10 seconds, a GPS signal or anything like that

 The watch strap seems to have really helped for this watch with that. You know you're going to be out there and you need the battery life. Or maybe you're just looking to switch things up. You want a lighter model, something that's a bit more useful in an everyday setting as well as obviously tracking your activities

 Definitely think this watch can last a super long time, 100%. I definitely probably only charge it once a week. And that's more of a precautionary measure if I'm going out for a long run and it's down to maybe like 10% or something at that point. I want to make sure obviously it's not going to run out within the run, but the battery life is certainly really impressive and definitely a real big plus about this watch for the price point to have a battery life that is that long is pretty spectacular

So I’m finally at a point in my running where I think I need to ditch my Apple Watch 4 and get a “real” watch.

Context: running 50-72 miles a month (not a lot in general but a lot of me although I’m still somewhat slow 9-10 min/mile), 152 lbs, 50s. 

Got into running seriously 1-1/2 years ago and love it. I’m a bit of a data geek (into shoes, form, nutrition, training).

Looking for something that is reliable (recently got the Polar H10 HRM), run mostly by heart rate and sometimes pace. Trying to follow the 80/20 rule for aerobic/anaerobic (not quite MAF). 

I’d like the watch for GPS, heart rate tracking, training, recovery, battery life, and hopefully some running form feedback (l/r, vertical velocity, ground contact time, etc.) so I can improve.

I don’t listen to music or audio and looking primarily for the key features above. I don’t need superfluous bells and whistles.

Would appreciate advice between the models listed above. Or others. And why.

If I should be thinking differently and if I’m not quite there yet for a sports watch, let me know.

Coros Apex vs Garmin 645 vs Polar Vantage V2?

Somewhat Complicated

 Okay, so let's wrap this up. What do I personally think about the Coros Apex? I think for the money, this thing is truly hard to beat. For $349, you're getting specs and features that are only available in much higher price devices. At this price point, there's really nothing from Garmin or Suunto that can compete

 As far as size, I'm currently wearing the 46 millimeter version. I'm a small dude. I'm five foot seven, 145 pounds and I don't have big wrists, but I think it fits me quite well and I'm super comfortable wearing it. I also sleep with the watch on without a problem

 I also had my Garmin Forerunner 945 with me. By the end of the event, I had 75% battery life left on the Coros Apex. That's impressive. The Garmin on the other hand was down to 69%, which is still great, but not as good as the Apex considering that the Garmin costs twice as much

 It was nearly identical to the Garmin. Keep in mind, you got to keep the strap super tight on this thing to get a good accurate reading. Okay, best for last, battery life. Coros has simply done something amazing here
