 However, I don't like doing this because I am afraid of not being able to get all of the bleach out. Every once in a while, instead of using dish soap, I will use bleach cleaner and scrub the tank with the bottle cleaner and rinse really well. Works great, but inconvenient features

 The big issue is that the way the water/steam gets pushed out through the top isn't quite as efficient as the elephant.  Other reviews mentioned this and I ignored it but they were right. If you're debating, go with the elephant. Also, if you're looking for an easy to clean humidifier, this isn't it

Adorable Humidifier But Not the Best

I have this brand in the elephant and LOVE how it mists, although hard to clean/sanitize it dispenses the most and it’s great. They Hippo bothers me, the mist comes out of the ears and not in one direction. It’s good if you just want to humidify the entire room but when someone is sick and you want it on you then it’s a no go. I prefer the elephant

  I suppose the point, in this case, is to let you know it's on, in case you DON'T see mist coming out, which would tell you to troubleshoot, but, then again, it has a dial (for how much mist you want) with a very noticeable "click" when rotating it from the off, to the on position, so, again, not sure why the light needs to be so obtrusive, especially for a device that many folks, like me, will obviously use at night. Plus, it has a red light to tell you if it is "on" but out of water (in which case it shuts down the humidifier function anyway), so it seems just that warning light, if even needed, would have been fine, without the additional light telling you what you already know, when it's working.  So, I will need to pull out the black electrical tape, yet again, which is always annoying since it gets gloopy over time from the tape's adhesive, and it seems a shame to muck up Mr. Puffington's flawless penguin suit

Works GREAT!!!  The summary:  Easy set up (fill, turn on, presto), more than enough volume of humidification, super simple care (empty, let dry, done) all make this one awesome penguin! Irritating night light that can't be turned off results in the loss of one star.  The story:  Coming from a bottle top type humidifier (looking for something small but effective) that didn't put out anything more than a whisper of mist, I was seeking something more substantial. Enter Mr. Puffington (yes, ahaha, they gave him a name, and put it right on the box) and his misty beak

  So, I will need to pull out the black electrical tape, yet again, which is always annoying since it gets gloopy over time from the tape's adhesive, and it seems a shame to muck up Mr. Puffington's flawless penguin suit. But it really is annoying at night, so.

 Enter Mr. Puffington (yes, ahaha, they gave him a name, and put it right on the box) and his misty beak.  Although larger than I'd hoped (about the girth of an official-size basketball, with a penguin head on top) he sits nicely atop a surface, taking up just slightly more table space than the average toaster, and the payoff in performance is more than worth it. I was likely dreaming, thinking that any small solution would pump out serious humidity, so I'm happy to have the volume from this device, despite needing to clear some space to find a place to put it, both when using it, and when allowing it to dry out the next morning

I bought two of these humidifiers, the Penguin and the Frog, each for an equivalently sized bedrooms. After the first night of usage I realized that the Penguin didn't put out as much steam as the Frog did. My hygrometers clearly showed the difference in room humidity levels. To verify my findings I swapped the two humidifiers, the same thing happened

I also noticed that after the same usage, Frog was close to emptying it's reservoir, while Penguin used only 1/3 of it's capacity

Is it worth the money?

 Once you get the hang of it, it's no big deal and, when done correctly, there is no spillage. The humidifier doesn't make a mess, but it is a tank of water and thus drips sometimes after filling so you'll want to protect the furniture you put it on. I purchased an inexpensive plastic placemat and haven't had any problems, though I do keep a hand towel nearby just in case.  Overall this product works well, is cute, and is a good price

 The tank is large and I never fill it more than half way because the water needs to be changed every day or two so it doesn't start to stink in the tank. There really isn't a good way to get a towel in there to dry it out, so when I was out of town for a few days I left it empty and open in the kitchen sink. Other reviewers have mentioned that the tank doesn't stand up on its own to be filled. This can be frustrating, but I found that if I take the penguin head off, the top of the tank rests nicely in the drain of the kitchen sink and supports the tank

Cute and works well

  After not using him for a few weeks; maybe 4, I started to notice the white build up around the mist openings and decided to clean him. The hard water had taken its effect on poor Owly and we spent maybe 30 minutes trying to scrape it off and clean him. Although it is our fault for letting him sit unmaintenanced for that long, I hope that Crane comes up with better design in the future that will reduce this kind of issue with less maintenance. Even including a complimentary filter of some sort would be nice

The tank is now heavy with water, and wet from being held under the spout. Which means I dropped it within 2 days of opening it - and the plastic tank shattered and big pieces broke off, rendering the humidifier unusable. I ordered another (unbreakable tank) humidifier, then checked the Crane website and found I could order a new tank -- that came quickly and I'm now using this humidifier again

I have very mixed feelings about this humidifier.  Pros:  It gives out a noticeable amount of humidity, and I can see the noticeable rise in humidity levels when I use it - so it gives me the primary benefit one expects from a humidifier  It is very quiet  It is cute  Its capacity is pretty good  Cons:  It is an awkward shape  It is difficult to clean thoroughly - I don't worry about the cleanliness of the humidity produced, because it's ultrasonic. But when I run it for a few days, or want to put it away into storage in the spring, it is challenging to clean out the base. And the water tank wouldn't significantly be cleaned by being put in the dishwasher - there's a small opening in the bottom

Mixed Review: Good Humidity but Don't Drop the Tank!

 I found them a bit small to be effective in our master bedroom unless places directly next to the person sleeping that needed the humidity. For my daughter's room (standard room size of 10x12) the frog has been irreplaceable. I don't miss the auto shut off as I had originally stated. We primarily use her frog unit when she has a cold or other respiratory issue and it works wonders

 Very happy with our purchase and would highly recommend these to anyone in the market for a humidifier, especially for a child's room.

 We now use ours in our room and found it made a difference for us too.  The units aren't full of lots of bells an wistles (in hind sight I would have liked one that would auto shut off when the room got to the right humidity but I'm still not willing to pay the higher price for that feature), but they work great and are fun to look at. They are super quiet too which was my biggest concern as I am a VERY light sleeper. I have no issues have this humidifier on and sleeping even better than I did before

I purchased two of these humidifiers, the frog and the penguin were our animals of choice. The Frog was for our daughter's room and the Penguin was for our room. We tried the Frog in our daughter's room first (she is four months old) as we found she was coughing and getting a very dry, snotty nose at night due to the dry air from the central heat in our new home. After just one night of the humidifier in her room we found the dry cough she would get in the morning was gone
