I've used Garmin watches for years and was planning on the Garmin Fenix 6 as my next watch, until I learned about the Descent Mk2.

Let me be very honest up front. I absolutely do NOT need the Descent and it's very much overkill at my current skill level. So why am I even considering it? Here's why.

The Fenix 6 can range from $600 - $800.  I also need to buy a dive computer. The models I've been considering range around $200 - $300. Combined we're now around $1k and close to what it costs for a Mk2 (not including the transmitter) . 

While I can afford the Mk2 it would still be a significant financial investment so I'm a bit hesitant. Here are a couple specific questions I'm hoping the community can help me with.

1. I'm not sure if I would get the AI version and just not get a transmitter now or get the non-AI version of the Mk2. Does it make sense to get the Mk2 and not use the transmitter? 
2. Without considering price, is the Mk2 just to much for a novice diver?

Do I get the Descent Mk2 even though I don't need it....yet?

 A feature I don't like is the short battery life when diving...Yeah, I know about taking off Wifi, bluetooth, functions etc, but why have to bother just for diving or anything else

Jury out on value...for divers or fitbit enthusiasts?

I want something that I don’t have to worry about charging every single day, and the AW Ultra still only has 36 hours of battery life whereas my MK2s has 7 days (20+ in battery saver mode). The Descent Mk2i was overkill for what I wanted, it’s just massive and really expensive. I just wanted something that could be worn as a standard wrist Watch, great for activity tracking (including diving), had a few smart features built in, and had better battery life than the AW.

I‘m about to embark on a trip around the world and I‘m planning on doing a lot of diving. I‘d love to log these dives digitally and I was wondering what you guys think about using the apple watch ultra as a dive computer?

Excellent all-in-one watch!

Just got my Garmin Descent Mk2i. While an amazing computer on its own, it’s hard to recommend unless “ability to remotely monitor someone else’s tank” is a top priority. I’ve heard from a lot of people that compare it to a Terric and they tend to prefer the Terric, AND the Terric is cheaper.

In your opinion, what is the best dive computer/ watch out there? Why?
