  I'm speculating (after 30+ years as an engineer) that the materials used in the gearing that engages the rotors is not made for consistent use under heavy stress (like cookie dough, for example).  My problem is that I'm going to expect this model to last about 2 years before needing to be replaced so I will either need to purchase a backup or find a commercial hand mixer using more robust materials.

None of the hand mixers I come across have a true low speed. I have a kitchenaid that I love but I needed something cheaper for my skincare products. I had an old hand mixer that I'd been given 59 years ago that died. It had only 3 speeds; slow, medium and fast. I thought wow 5 speeds that sounds great. But the 5 speeds are fast, faster, even faster, even more fast and fastest

Review number one: I own the quiescent'red power advantage, five-speed handheld mixers since early April 2009, and I am quiet happy with it thus far. In all fairness, this is my second handheld mixer in my previous mixer proctor silex, six, two five, three five full rest: five speed.
