So... I'll start by saying this I'm not looking to wander off into the words or rough terrain!

With that said, I do like to visit the tropics and rain is really a thing to consider. In my shoe bag I bring pack-flat shoes generally (Keds, flip flops &amp; some padded huaraches) and neither one of those will stand up too well to well to more than a sprinkle. Has anyone tried traveling with a pair (or two) of [waterproof silicone shoe covers](https://www.etsy.com/listing/875550399/waterproof-shoe-cover-silicone-material?gpla=1&amp;gao=1&amp;)? they looks super convenient, lightweight, and even if a small hole happens on the bottom, the tops of the shoes would still stay dry.

15k vs 20k waterproofing

I’ve always been a glove guy, but these long fingers of fine make for some terrible circulation. 

Anyone have any mitten recommendations? I would prefer a leather mit for durability, but I’m curious to hear how those leather/hyde “dipped/waxed” mittens compare to like a gore-tex?

I’d love some input. thanks!

Let’s talk mitts

Hello everyone. I bicycle commute year round in Canada and something I noticed is that it’s really a pain in the butt to put booties around my shoes on rainy days. Previously I used waterproof shoes but somehow the water always manages to sneak in between the shoe and the rain pants. I have begun to think that it may be a lot quicker to wear a rubber boot under my rain pants, then quickly switch into work shoes when I get to work. Do any of you use something like this? Ideally these would be lightweight but flexible at the ankles with some insulation for subzero days. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Hello, i am looking for a budget winter sleeping system (sleeping bag, sleeping pad). I live in greece so the winter is not anything extreme. But we gonna camp in snow etc so definetelly bellow 0 C to -5 C give or take at night. i am gonna use a car so i dont neceserly care about the weight and size. i want to spend maximum 200 euros.

Budget sleeping system for winter (car camping)

I have a pair of the waterproof Gore-Tex ones and they are fully waterproof and super warm/comfortable.

This is going to be a bit long winded, but I mainly want to write this for myself and I'm not too concerned if anyone sees it.

I hit rock bottom from depression last year due to some pretty awful personal circumstances and was spending a lot of time in bed. I got a pretty nice (imo) budget gravel bike in December 2020 to motivate me to get out some as I used to ride my BMX ~10 miles, five days a week. It took a while to finally get some motivation to get out and I haven't been riding consistently until August (still not getting out often enough because of time, energy, and weather). 

There are a couple nice paved bike paths by me with, in the grand scheme of things, very insignificant hills. Maybe 150ft and 30ft of elevation gain a couple times on each one. These used to absolutely kill me. I would have to shift to my 48t gear on my 38t front ring to get to the top and I'd come out needing to catch my breath. I hadn't ridden them in a while because it was really hard to stay motivated thinking about riding them and getting so fucking exhausted.

Fast forward to this last week: I'd recently put a 44t on my front since I was spinning out on pretty lame descents. I did both of these "climbs" this week and, considering where I was earlier this summer, absolutely smashed them. I've got a bigger front chain ring, I only had to shift to my 40t gear, and by the time I was at the top, I didn't even realize I had gone up the hill.

I've seen a lot of posts from users in my same boat. If you're reading this: Hang in there and the progress will come. Keep at it!

I'm out of shape, have asthma, bad knees, and a bad back...and I'm absolutely killing it this last month!


I’m starting a job in a couple of weeks cleaning up trash and homeless camps along a stream. We will be working through the winter. I’m not sure how far from our vehicle we will be but  imagine it will be pretty far away at times. What winter gear/apparel/must haves would y’all recommend?
