OK, this post is definitely pointless fluff, but I have to share with someone how impressed I am with my new Rega Planar 3 turntable. I am not an audiophile by any measure, but me and the SO decided to treat ourselves to a new turntable after a month or so of tough work schedules. I took quite a bit of head scratching to work out how to properly align the cartridge, but we managed.

I have to say this sounds really, really nice. Granted, my old record player was a terrible no-name plastic piece of crap, so the baseline was very low... but this sounds so clean I feel like I'm listening to my records for the first time again. No hiss, no skipping (my old player skipped lots, probably a bad cartridge alignment). There's also a lot more 'space' to the music then there was before.

Set up:

* Rega Planar 3 w/ Rega Elys 2 cartridge
* Onkyo TX-8270
* DALI Spektor 2 (these sound unbelievably good for their size)

Currently indulging in a Magazine's Second Hand Daylight.

New Rega Panar 3 turntable sounds awesome!

 High trumpets sound like kazoos and the violin section of an orchestra sound like they are using sandpaper on their bows. Very shrieky highs and distorted. I've stuffed the dang things with shag-rug and felt to try and block the highest treble but keep the upper mid-range. Very bad

ELAC DB5.2 or DB6.2, Wharfedale Diomond 225, Dali Spektor 1 or Spektor 2 there are soooooo many option man. BUT you wouldn't get that 5.1 surround sound with them. Only stereo. AIYIMA A-07 is a great budget Amp.

Separates are normally the best choice for good budget sound and flexibility but for a desktop setup powered speakers are sometimes a better choice given the space and the limited budget unless you are finding good choices in the second hand market near you.

If you can find some good second hand speakers near you then I would suggest pairing them with the SMSL SA300 desktop amp/dac which has a subwoofer output so you can add a sub later if you wish.

hi all, I am looking to upgrade my PC speakers. My budget is \~$300-$350. I currently have a very old desktop Advent speaker. I really like them but there is no sub and also the sound is less for a large room. 

I am debating on getting a desktop/PC 5.1 (ex. Logitech Z906) vs buying bookshelf speakers and amp (ex. Fluance Signature HiFi and \~$75 desktop amp). Just wanted to hear your thoughts and opinion.

budget upgrade for desktop ($300-$350)

 but the sound from such a small package is sublime! The bass is great for the size! the treble is great! Mid range is great! Don’t worry about the 83db sensitivity. I have powered these with 25-50w class d amps and they still are extremely loud with room to spare. I am a Dali believer now! I encourage all of you to buy these! If you need small speaker for your space this will not disappoint! Update After owning these speakers for a week.

Oh my! These speakers are amazing! Ok so I presently own Klipsch rp-600m, Klipsch rp-150m, JBL studio 530, Klipsch r-41m. I have speakers for music in different rooms and home theatre. When I hooked these Dali speakers up I was totally blown away. Listening to the first song I had this unavoidable smile, and I just couldnt wait to hear the next song

 when you close your eyes u would think ur going to see these big speakers in front of you and u open your eyes and see such a tiny speaker ... to the point where you are double checking your connections

Klipsch RP600m, Monitor Audio Bronze 100, Q Acoustics 3020i, Dali Spektor 2, Paradigm Monitor SE Atom etc... Do not buy any speaker from JBL. Look for neutral -cold sounding speakers as NAD Amps are generally warm sounding Amps.

I have that same amp with some really nice vintage speakers. Technics SBX 700. They do sound wonderful on that amp.

Today was new amp day for me.

 At first, and with some trepidation, I bought a pair of powered Klipsch speakers. They had a signature punchy Klipsch sound, but too much bass for my space, and treble which seems to "ring out" (emphasize) certain tones to the point of being shrill to my ears, which I have found with Klipsch before. They were fatiguing after an hour or so. I never really wanted an "all-in-one" powered speaker solution

  These speakers have an airy, smooth treble, a welcome relief after the Klipsch. The sound is totally enveloping..

 while working, it is a joy to feel yourself truly transported by the music. They do go surprisingly low. Though the specs read 59hz as the bottom end, you will find them favoring mid bass, and sounds like a kick drum will definitely be skewed to higher frequencies. But often you'll be pleasantly surprised by a low note on an organ, or electronic bass

Perfect for desktop listening

I just upgraded to dali spektor 1 on my desk, and they blew me away. I paired them with an old denon receiver I had laying around but I think with a decend class d amp (e.g. from SMSL) you can come out around the 300 Euro budget

I have been looking into upgrading my desktop speaker system, as I have been slowly building towards my dream desktop corner and now I would like to upgrade the audio and I am also lately seeking for that better audio quality in songs and overall audio.

Righ now I have the **Trust Tytan 2.1** that have entertained me for some years and were well worth the 50€ I paid for them.

 
&lt;h2&gt;Now I want to take it a step higher&lt;/h2&gt;

* I want a pair of active/powered bookshelf speakers(smaller size amps are okay, if there are better passive speakers).

* **Budget is 300€** but I'm willing to go up to 500€ if there is a major step towards better speakers

* They will be on the desk and near field, but they should also fill my living room/apartment if needed. Size wise ELAC Debut B6.2(375 mm×195 mm×268mm) is the max I can manage on the table, but I don't want small desktop speakers also.

* I'm pretty sure I will later add a subwoofer as I'm kind of of a basshead

* I use them mostly for music, as the moment I step home they will start playing till I go to sleep and I think all speakers can handle games and movies. My music taste is pretty wide, but mostly electronic(hardstyle etc.), but there are also days I like to listen to slow, older, rock and I really like vocal songs even for hardstyle I like more the melodic type. So they should be really universal.

* I really don't care if I can update them later or not as they are meant for my desktop.

* ** Edifier S880DB ~195€  ** Seems to be the best quality speaker out of the Edifier and has the best appearance 
* ** Edifier R1850DB ~160€ ** The only one that has the sub out option out of all Edifier speakers(yes I know R1700DBs has it, they pretty much the same speaker)
Here ends the Edifier list, I don't like how the others look like.
* ** Kanto YU6 ~399-440€ ** These are out of the budget but again good reviews and I really like how they look
* ** Audioengine A5+ ~336-549€ ** Like Kanto I like how they look and the reviews are okay
* ** Magnat Multimonitor 220 ~420€ ** The only ones I had the opportunity to listen live(one song) but not so many reviews and pretty expensive. But that one song really blew me away, listened to B&amp;W 606 before(same song) and didn't really make any difference from the two. Song was Meduza - Paradise

So yeah guys, I really don't know which way to go from here and maybe you can help me a little. Don't have a place to test or listen to most of them, only to order and maybe test them home. Maybe you have some better suggestions for me.

My music taste is pretty wide, but mostly electronic(hardstyle etc.), but there are also days I like to listen to slow, older, rock and I really like vocal songs even for hardstyle I like more the melodic type. So they should be really universal.</p></li>

<li><strong>Fluance Ai60/61</strong> Really beautiful speaker and size is perfect, reviews are okay, but it will be in stock 30 May(I&#39;m not that patient)</li>
<li><strong>Edifier R2000DB ~180€</strong> All Edifier speakers are highly reviewed and are like the go to budget quality audio speakers</li>
<li><strong>Edifier S880DB ~195€</strong> Seems to be the best quality speaker out of the Edifier and has the best appearance </li>
<li><strong>Edifier R1850DB ~160€</strong> The only one that has the sub out option out of all Edifier speakers(yes I know R1700DBs has it, they pretty much the same speaker)
Here ends the Edifier list, I don&#39;t like how the others look like.</li>
<li><strong>Kanto YU6 ~399-440€</strong> These are out of the budget but again good reviews and I really like how they look</li>
<li><strong>Audioengine A5+ ~336-549€</strong> Like Kanto I like how they look and the reviews are okay</li>
<li><strong>Magnat Multimonitor 220 ~420€</strong> The only ones I had the opportunity to listen live(one song) but not so many reviews and pretty expensive. But that one song really blew me away, listened to B&amp;W 606 before(same song) and didn&#39;t really make any difference from the two. Song was Meduza - Paradise</li>
<li><strong>Klipsch R-41/51PM</strong> They are pretty expensive but also like how they look</li>

<p>So yeah guys, I really don&#39;t know which way to go from here and maybe you can help me a little. Don&#39;t have a place to test or listen to most of them, only to order and maybe test them home. Maybe you have some better suggestions for me. </p>

Want to make a step towards Budget Audiophile life. Don't really know what step to take

Over the years I've heard quite a lot of speakers priced around these Dali Spektor bookshelfs and, without doubt, these are definitely the best. I play all sorts of music - classical, rock, jazz, folk etc., and these speakers reproduce all types of music very well. If you're looking for a pair of small, well balanced speakers (not too much bass, not too much treble) these will not let you down

Even at low volumes (which I often think is a good test of speakers) the sound reproduction is quite full. The speaker cabinets are also very well crafted - you'll see and feel the quality as soon as you take them out of the box

Better than their cost

Dali Spektor 1’s - amazing sound (no subwoofer needed), beautiful with their grill off and right in your price point.

I've moved to a much smaller apartment and have to downsize from my current Q's 3030i to something smaller, similar sounding (if possible) and front / down ported. 200-300 euros max. Any recommendations?

Have to downsize, any decent compact bookshelf speakers available in Europe??

. The trebles , mids and lows are nicely balanced and integrated .. The bass is more than adequate ( can't expect more for such a size)
