Like you, after several years I switched from Paperlike HD to Paperlike 253 when it came out on Indiegogo. Although the monitor PPI went down from 207 PPI to 145 PPI, the overall experience is good. Like with Paperlike HD, you only need one set of settings to last through the day (I think I used to use Black+ in Paperlike HD). There is pretty much no need to keep switching modes.

I'm using a Dasung Paperlike 253, that works nicely after some getting used to. Just make sure the editor/IDE you use has a "High Contrast" option, or at least light color schemes available.

Try the 25.3" Dasung Paperlike 253. Plenty of monochrome screen real estate. It's perfect for programming and text editing. Later this month a new Paperlike 253 with a front-light system will go on sale too.

The 25 inches Paperlike 253 is most likely the best one yet. The upcoming Boox Mira Pro should be a good competitor as well. They are grey scale though, color eink is not good enough yet.
