The 5 Best Canister Vacuums - Spring 2022

 Nope: This is too aggravating now to use, and I was so happy in the beginning. Dropping it to 3 stars because 2 years is not long enough for so much to get shabby. UPDATE: After only about 18 months, I had to buy a new brush and back plate for the head. The black bristles of the brush had worn to nubbins and the back plate's fuzzy strip had come unglued - yes, I reglued it, but it just didn't hold - (causing minor scratches on the laminate)

  The canister Max Fill is about half what the upright's was, so I need to empty it twice per use rather than once - no biggie. I like that the dirt/hair/debris all finds its way to the bottom of the canister so emptying it is quick and tidy.  I'm startled by how much dirt/dust/hair/fur/debris this baby picked up (I vacuumed the place with the old Dyson just 3 days ago, yet the canister was full - twice (of course, I haven't cleaned the upright's filter recently))! I'm delighted with how clean the brush head is afterward! I appreciate that the head is more maneuverable than the upright's in getting into smaller spaces, and the articulating handle makes it even easier! I like the trigger for releasing suction - very handy! I love the quieter sound. I love the two-headed attachment that's a brush and a crevice tool in one

The suction is fine. I like this vacuum in general, but for the money, they could have come up with a design that keeps their typical customer base in mind a bit more.  I work hard for my money and this vacuum is a big disappointment to me and my wallet.  Con: The spin brush will not spin much or if even at all on carpet/rugs (I have tile and cork floors). The suction is the same as my Shark Rocket with a clean filter. It get's stuck on corners and I have to manually move it

 My husband bought a new shop vacuum with a huge bag in it and it works almost as well as the Dyson with one tenth of the cost.

 It was a four, now it's a three. I am having trouble opening it to clean out the tank and also closing it. The little lever sticks and I have to pry it up. I am beginning to research other vacuum cleaners, sorry to say

 This is by far the noisiest one I have ever owned. I do like that there is no filter, but make sure it is in the closed position when you are through empting it or the next time you pull it off to empty it you will have a mess to clean up. It only happened to me once and now I make sure it is closed.

 My complaint is that it makes a lot of noise and sometimes whistles when you bring it back toward you. I have had 2 other Dyson canister vacuum cleaners and never had that problem. This is by far the noisiest one I have ever owned. No filter and great pickup power

 My old Dyson animal upright is on it's last legs and I was looking at the big ball Animal without filters. However I am concerned by the reviews that complained about cheap breakable plastic parts and hose issues.

My biggest complaint is that the cord is too short. I have to stop vacuuming and re-plug the vacuum four times just to do my upstairs living area. Plus it is not recommended to use an extension cord with this machine. Next, it takes quite a bit of effort to move the carpet attachment back and forth over the carpet

 My old DC Animal upright made it a snap to vacuum. Finally, The dirt bin is a pain in the rear. It opens easily but to get it to close back up is a real pain since it doesn't want to re-latch. For the money we spent it isn't worth it

  I"m afraid this will not hold up with regular use.  I've used it once and it does pick up debris fine and large. It does have powerful suction for hardwood, carpet, and rugs.  I will give it a couple of weeks to see if it is worth keeping

 The vacuum is a great piece of technology but the brush roll, while fast, doesn't really seem to dig into the carpet and clean it deeply. Also when you run over small debris like a cheerio or something it wants to spin around the brush forever and never get sucked up. Furthermore the brush roll is rather narrow. I would love to see this same vacuum with a better turbobrush

A good machine at its core with some maddening flaws

 Now when I press detach I hold the bottom lid carefully so it doesn’t spill over.beaodes that the accessories are more than enough and overall looks fantastic and the self balancing and longer retractable cord are a plus. I don’t know if my canister is malfunctioning but I rather give it a five.

It’s a powerful vacuum and works well suctioning up dirt and all of the dog hair from our two Aussies. I love that there is the ability for the cord to retract automatically, and I like how they changed the mechanism for emptying the canister. The only downside for me is when I’m trying to vacuum my high pile area rugs. The attachment won’t smoothly run over them, and I end up just using the hose and running it over each piece of the rug individually
