Overall, it's a solid purchase to have and it's a huge upgrade from the V8 and it still lasts me over three years and I love it!

I opted to go this route b/c I don't really need a canister vac as I have a central vac with a Sebo ET-1 that we normally would use + a Dyson V10 stick vac. Since bringing home the D4 my OCD tendencies are getting the best of me and looking at my used vacuum that I proceeded to clean the exterior to rid it of any rub marks on it from hitting furniture.

So I've had this Dyson V10 for almost 3 years. I spent $500 on it and to be honest it was a very high upfront cost but let me tell you, over these 3 years it has been worth more than $500 to me. The time that it's saved me, the fact that it's wireless, the plethora of attachments, all that has been worth more than $500. Dyson has me as a customer for life, I'm never buying another brand of vacuum because their vacuums are just that good.

My house is three stories with 60% carpet, 30% hardwood, and 10% tile. I have a Dyson v10 animal stick vacuum that I will use for the stairs. My dogs have fairly long hair and they shed, a lot. My budget is ideally under $500 but I'm willing to spend up to $1,000 for the right vacuum.

I think as a member here that JUST picked up a used D4 that I can speak to this coming from a Dyson V10 and a central vac system. If the shelves aren't too high where you have to really stretch to reach it with the vacuum hose that dusting is pretty easy and I almost prefer having the handle on the Sebo (and similarly my central vac) b/c ergonomically it feels "better" for me when dusting things like countertops and wide flat open spaces.
