To me, this is usually far more distracting and immersion-breaking than washed out blacks, and was part of what got me to sell my OLED and go back to the Epson HC 2100. And of course, even these distracting black areas come with compromises like janky motion in the case of OLED, or blooming in the case of local dimming. And having gone back and forth between both, the light coming from the projector screen feels natural whereas the TV light feels like some searing thing that’s hard to look at. Anyway, this is probably not news to any of you, but had to share it with someone who will understand.

I've had good luck using an Epson 2100 for backyard movies. I was able to get one "Amazon renewed" last year for well under that budget, though of course supply varies. If you can get down to a short list of projectors, you can use the projector central throw calculator to get an idea about brightness and screen size at various throw distances. For outside, consider the time of day and how much light there is around at night.

Even though it was an "open box" item everything was in pristine condition and included the box and all the accessories. Once I got home and powered it on I checked and the bulb only had 17 hrs on it. Very impressed with the 2100 so far I just have a couple of questions.
