Given the resolution, I’d go for 65-80 inches anyway, in which case, it’s a wonderful little machine. I also own the Asus F1 in another property and I would recommend the Epson as the colors feel more realistic. I don’t notice any rainbow effect with the Epson but I do with the Asus. The TW7100 is a projector that produces an incredible picture, excellent skin tones and beautiful colors out of the box.

**Cons** for Epson: No 4K on cheap model, but not terribly bothered. TW7100 is aged, but so is the BenQ W2700. LCD vs DLP, I am not prone to Rainbow effect on DLP and have heard there can be uniformity issues on LCD projectors such as the Epson. So yeah, sorry for the wall of text here.

Benq w1070 finally croaked, new projector for ~$2500(AUD) or less?

I went from the W1070, to the Epson TW7100 because it seemed like the best all rounder and am pretty happy with it. The increased brightness gives HDR an extra punch and lets me watch during the day. I would like the blacks to be better with HDR but it seems to have the best contrast out of everything you listed. Benq was not an option for me because of the input lag.

Would a projector under 250€ be worth it for a first contact with projectors?

As for the doubt whether you will like the projector, I can say from personal experience that it is the best investment I have made in my life when it comes to watching movies. I have been watching movies exclusively on screen for 10 years now and no TV can replace the 140-inch immersion. I started with a 720p Benq projector w700, then 1080p w1070 and w2000 + were all dlp, and now for the first time I switched to 3lcd Epson tw7100 which is 4k. Anyone who has ever watched a movie at my house wanted a projector at home.

Finally the room is ready; do I really need a calibrator?

Here’s my setup; epson eh tw7100, 130’’, Yamaha musiccast 400 + 2x musiccast 20, projector white wall paint. I like the final result, the only thing that upset me is the presence of horizontal dark grey bands on top and bottom of image when 16:9 or 24:9.. I tried to play with settings but could not make them disappear;. Do you all guys use a calibrator like spyderx pro?
