Sorry if this isn’t allowed. I’m a PhD student in ecology (my work is in Appalachia), and I will eventually need camping gear, but at the moment, I am worried about getting through my school/work days. I am on a new medication that seems to necessitate a nap (about 20-35 minutes) every day at 1 or 2pm. I find this very frustrating… but it seems like the most logical way to deal with it is by giving my body what it needs when it needs it, rather than struggle to work through exhaustion. 

I have an office that is private to me, and it wouldn’t be against any rule to sleep there. (I define my own working hours.) I have space to store the pad and anything else needed there in the office. It’s not feasible for me to drive home instead, as it’s a 20 minute drive + 20 minute walk from the parking lot to my building each way.

Considerations: I am a 5’3, ~130lb woman with scoliosis and related mid-back pain. I’d like to spend less, but can be talked into up to maybe $200, especially if it would also be good for the climate I’ll be working in/durable enough to last me several years of my career.

Choosing a sleeping pad that can be used in my office?

We are gearing up (pun entirely intended) for a camping trip in a little over a month; we used air mattresses on our last trip (we are semi-novice campers) and hated them, so we are now looking for alternatives. I would like something relatively inexpensive and self-inflating, otherwise, I am open to any and all suggestions.

Easy to inflate… the first time.

My husband and I plan on camping more frequently this summer than we've had a chance to in the past. I will be quite pregnant for a lot of this and we don't really have sleeping pads or air mattresses. What is your favorite of either of those? We're trial running camping with our toddler tonight and I'm using the top cushion of a nugget couch so I can be semi-cpmfortable enough to sleep, but that isn't something I want to drag with us each trip, especially ones we plan on hiking in to the campsite.

Any other tips for camping while pregnant?

What is your favorite sleeping pad?

Gone flat

If car camping, the Exped MegaMat.  It has a very high R value (insulates you from the ground) and is by far the most comfortable sleeping pad out there.  Well worth the price.

I’m a total noob to the camping world, but desperately missing hiking and kayaking since becoming ill. Camping seems to be a good way to get me back in the woods in a way that would be good for my body. Would love any and all tips!

Not asking which is the best tent stake, or best camp stove, or recommended quilt, or whatever...  Just curious; what did you upgrade this offseason due to sales, old gear, or simply wanting to upgrade/new technology?

I got rid of my mish-mash of random utensils and got a GSI kitchen kit, a couple more Apollo Black Diamond LED lights, and sometime this week I'll replace my 15 year old 6 man Coleman tent with another (no rush... only used when the significant other joins me and she doesn't camp very often).
