 I have delay in the loop, which for some reason gets people all worked up because they can't hear what the gear I'm trying out sounds like. So here goes. First neck pickup. It helps if you have the amp turned on

 Okay, so I bought this about a month ago, I think, and it's been lying around. We had to, I say we, my guitar luthier friend, had to do a bit of filing on the nut. Everything else was fine, but now when I played it a bit I noticed it has a dead note here, or slightly off one. Should be fine with a bit of setup

 They're usually made of a few pieces of wood just to keep costs down. The neck feels nice, it looks nice. The fret edges don't really feel rounded but they feel okay. The parts look good, they don't look like the cheap kinds of things that you sometimes get on more cheaper guitars

[QUESTION] Is a Fender Player Series strat an overkill for a first electric guitar?

 The up-side is that this guitar needs no upgrades. The tuners keep the strings well in tune, the neck & frets are perfect, the alder wood body resonates so beautifully that I don’t need an amp to play it late at night, and after I soldered in the orange drop the pickups sound mind-blowingly good.  The reason for only 3 stars is that the neck and body are made from parts sold separately & screwed together without any preparation of the mounting surfaces. I don’t recommend ordering it here

If you want a new Telecaster, buy it from a guitar shop. This one’s virtually unplayable out of the box and will need a bit of serious work before it plays right

  That said, when it’s put together it’s a very fine instrument. I’d give it 5 stars if it arrived properly assembled with an orange drop capacitor. The up-side is that this guitar needs no upgrades. Needs serious finishing work, but it’s well built.

 Let's get into it. All right. Here's the guitar up close, firstly a massive thank you to Sky Music here in Melbourne Australia for the loan of this guitar, they're not paying me to make this video nor do I get to keep this instrument, all the thoughts about this will be my very own, so I'm gonna give you my pros and cons at the end of this video. Some of the cool additions to this Telecaster over a lot of others out there, we get the V-Mod 2 single coil pickups and in my opinion these sound great straight off the shelf, there would be no reason to replace these pickups unless of course you wanted noiseless or something like that, but in terms of straight up tally tone, both of these sound great

 Beautiful, now over to both pickups. It's got that typical telecaster spank and twang. And now over to bridge. Alright now let's go back to both pickups and I'm going to play a funky rhythm part and then I'm going to push the push push part so it enables the fat mode, here we go

Fender American Professional II Telecaster Review (Pros & Cons)

  One important note: this telecaster was purchased from Amazon off Amazon. I got a Strat off Amazon but through Chicago music exchange. That guitar was properly packed and had no issues and was also setup pretty decent.

 What you've got here is a very comfortable satin finished maple neck modern C profile on this one with a nine and a half inch fingerboard radius. Radius is one of those things that players probably maybe put a little bit too much focus on and pay a little bit too much attention to, but ultimately if it's bang in the middle like that, Nine and a Half is a very comfortable sweet spot that most players will find comfortable. They're definitely a little bit brighter and more zingy sounding. I think they make the guitar sound a little bit more alive that may be your thing, that may not, but what you can be assured of is that these stainless steel options really provide extra life

At the frets, you kind of get them to where you like them and you never have to think about them again. So that's a really nice piece of kind of assurance for players who just don't want to think about the setup of the guitars once they've got it dialed in

 So considering this is the entry point into the American lineup, this is actually a very well stocked guitar. The feature set on here really really speaks highly to players who are looking for the most kind of instantly gratifying i would say instrument. It's very easy to play, very comfortable indeed, and it has certain features on it that guitar players have come to appreciate over time, and Fender have obviously very wisely decided to implement into what is arguably their most wide-reaching model that's going to appeal to the greatest number of players. So let's get into some of those features

[GEAR] My first electric guitar

 Reviewers elsewhere have noted that in general the Player series upgrades make them more akin to the old American Standards (since replaced by the Professional series), and as luck would have it, the shop I was in had an American Standard tele for a little over $1000. They really did sound almost identical.  I will say, I preferred the neck on the used Standard: it had a gloss finish, as opposed to the satin finish on the Player, and felt just a tad chunkier than the Player. The Player neck frets were not sharp necessarily, but in comparison with the already worn-in used Standard, you feel them some as you move up and down the neck

  But ultimately, it comes down to the pickups. Folks have been playing the Standards for decades, so there is clearly nothing wrong with them, but I feel like the upgrade in tone was worth the extra money. I'm guessing that's exactly what Fender was counting on when they put out this new series.

 It certainly isn't as comfortable as an old American Standard neck, but then again, it's half the cost. The other knock on the Standard: it was really heavy, and the Player, while not super-light, was much more comfortable.  But ultimately, it comes down to the pickups. Folks have been playing the Standards for decades, so there is clearly nothing wrong with them, but I feel like the upgrade in tone was worth the extra money

  The decision for me came down to the pickups. The guitars sound noticeably different. The old Standard has a beefier tone, but one that also can tend towards a little muddy. The Player series' alnico pickups (the old Standards were ceramic) sound clearer, with more of that bell-like ring and twang that just felt like a more traditional telecaster sound

 Let's go ahead, that's the neck pickup. Let's do that again in the bridge in the middle [Music] So let's jump back to the bridge position real quick. [Music] Let's go to the neck pickup. Ah, feels good, Sounds good

 Uh, probably the one upgrade. There's two upgrades you could prob you could potentially do one that I would do which is change out the tuning keys. I love locking tuners so I don't know if there's anything wrong with these. They actually feel pretty good, but I would switch them out to locking tuners

 [Music] All right. So once again, what we're looking at here is the Fender Player Series Telecaster. For the body, they use an alder body. It's a gloss polyester finish and this one happens to be in the gorgeous Butterscotch Blonde
