 Welcome to our 2023 ski test. We've got a new one for you today. This is a Fisher Ranger 96. This one kind of splits the difference between where the outgoing Fisher Ranger 94 FR and the 99 Ti was in their catalog

 So it should have that capability and I think they've been pretty successful in that regard. But again, leaving the tips and the tails unencumbered by that metal for playfulness and proper flex. Nice camber underfoot, positive camber, a lot of good snap in this ski for sure. And then I would call it width appropriate rocker

 Both colorways go all the way up to the longest length, so you do get some options to pick and choose your color and size, keeping within the same construction and shaping. So 96 millimeters underfoot, this is the 173 here. We're seeing a 17 meter turn radius, so like anything in that mid-90s range, we're generally looking to that 17-18 meter turn radius for a good mid-range, allowing you to vary up your turn shape and style depending on conditions, terrain, your personal skiing preference. So again, very well-rounded

 So really interesting way that they're incorporating this metal laminate into the ski, giving a lot of emphasis to the underfoot and carving performance. Something that we're looking at that's 96 millimeters or so underfoot that's in the all-mountain category should definitely be able to carve a clean turn on groomed terrain as that's what we end up doing a lot of the time out there. So it should have that capability and I think they've been pretty successful in that regard. But again, leaving the tips and the tails unencumbered by that metal for playfulness and proper flex

1st pair of skis was a pair of sky 7s (98mm, tons of rocker, and very light), which were a ton of fun to learn on, but after progressing I’ve realized they’re just too soft for me and ski very very short, so I’m fairly limited as far as speed &amp; stability goes.

I bought a pair of QST Blanks as a powder ski (loved them) and now I’m looking to trade in the sky 7s for something that’ll be my primary ski on the 80% of non-powder days. 

Me: 6’4” 200 lbs

What I like to ski: Steeps/Trees/Moguls/Groomers, I focus more on skiing more challenging but also 

Where I ski: Colorado

Main priorities are a ski that’s significantly more stable at speed and solid underfoot, but still playful enough to handle a majority of time skiing moguls and trees, along with occasional small jumps/tricks here and there.

All-Mountain Ski to round out quiver

 Well I was super excited to try this ski because I had heard some buzz around this ski because I know that there was a lot of redesign going into the whole fleet of this ski and it didn't disappoint for me. It's a super playful ski, turn initiation on it, it seemed like the rockers just right and again like I think that they just brought up the titanium on that ski just to the right sweet spot so turn initiation super fun and then coming out of the turn like a really nice dynamic kick out of the turn and yeah it just felt super great and not a heavy ski either. It's just like a point and shoot ski to me, you know I can get on that ski and decide where I want to take it and be balanced and it goes there. It's definitely an intermediate expert ski but I feel like it's a ski that you could progress on

Hello I am looking for a 70/30 ski in around 90mm width. I like to charge hard on groomers but also really enjoy trees, glades and bumps at a moderate speed. I also want something I can plow through chop on the resort. I am 174cm, 160ish lbs and ski at an intermediate advanced level usually around the PNW.

So far my quiver is: 18/19 Blizzard Rustler 10 and 19/20 K2 iKonic 84 non-ti. I am usually on the Rustlers for most of my outings but they do lack a top end on the groomers. I got the iKonics for a good deal. They lay down a good carve, push through chop and can handle a few inches of snow. But they also get pretty iffy going all out on the groomers and not the best in the bumps/trees.

I am looking at the Dynastar 90 m-pro, Salomon Stance 90 or the Armada Declivity 92 ti no greater than 180cm length. This ski will potential replace the K2s. The only ski I have demoed close to this list is the Salomon but in 96 at 182cm and found them to be what I am looking for.

 Fischer says that these are a freeride, all-mountain type ski for advanced level skiers. My first impressions of these skis were that they were a lot lighter than I expected and a lot more maneuverable. I've always known that these are a pretty hard-charging ski and expected them to be a little bit stiffer and a little bit burlier, but they were actually pretty easy to ski on. These were a little bit chattery when I went through the trees and hit some of that hard pack, but I think these skis would be much better and floatier if there were just better conditions out here. A little bit softer snow is that I think these skis are made for softer snow conditions

 But if you're not skiing at the speed that I am, then you're probably not going to have that problem. In the trees, I had a really easy time turning these. Like I said, they're pretty light, so that was really helpful. There's a little bit of rocker in the tail and the rocker in the tip make the quick turns around the trees really easy

Intermediate skier looking for new experiences

 I adjusted to skiing with a more centered stance and there found that the ski was really fun, really playful, great in a wide variety of terrain. Don't forget, if you're looking for help finding the right skis for you, click the link in the description and we'll help you find the right setup. It's definitely a powerful ski and the titanal metal allows it to definitely punch through that chunder and crunchy snow. So if you are skiing any sort of variable conditions, this is going to be a pretty good ski for you

 It's going to be super versatile. If you're looking to ski the park, if you're looking to ski switch a ton or you're a brand new skier, this ski is not for you. If you feel like charging some days and other days you might want to take it a little easier or a hard carving ski that can also jib, this would be a really good choice. However when I told the ski pro guy he nicely recommended that I buy a lighter or shorter ski because he said I’m too light for this ski in that size. I was bummed because everything I’ve read and researched had me pretty excited about them.

He said I shoud look at Blizzard Rustlers or Atomic Chetlers instead. Is he right?

 And I think in the range it's probably one of the more versatile skis in that range. Absolutely I think that the 96 totally appeals to the west coast skier. I think even though the 90 is there they're going to see the 90 as a little more curvy one whereas they're going to gravitate right to this as like the really the west coast ski. And due to its construction its flex shape and all that I think a lot of people will be really happy with this ski

 Now Greg you've also worked with Fisher in the development of the ski. Yeah so the idea came to just sort of change the whole ranger line to update it really to make it broader for the masses. And I think they did a fantastic job doing that. The 96 was one that they focused on a lot as they felt like they already had a pretty good shape for the 102

 So they did a super super job with this new collection specifically this 96. Now even at 96 the tip on this we mentioned is a 129 tip which is a little bit straighter than some of the other skis that are in this range. What that does when you get this ski into mixed conditions it doesn't get very nervous. So in that 96 range it is definitely one of those skis that is a little more comfortable in off-piste conditions

I think the sweet spot for what you’re describing and for you h/w would be the 180cm Ripstick 96ww Black. While I haven’t skied them, I talked to a lot of folks who have and they all said that the slightly wider ski with additional carbon would make up for the deficiencies I found in the 88ww. It’s still super light in the Black Edition. In the realm of playful AMS skis - you may not be able to find it anymore - but I can’t say good enough things about the Fischer Ranger 94 and 102 FR

I posted a couple days ago about the length of the ski I want to buy and have settled on the 180cm. Now I am trying to figure out if the Black or Regular Ripsticks would be a better fit for me.

I am 6'1, 160 lbs, buying my first AMS. I am an advanced/expert skier (can ski everything on-piste at a mountain like Park City, Snowbird, Aspen don't know what constitutes an expert) that loves tree skiing and off-piste powder skiing (but it doesn't mean I'll get that much of it in the east). I tried the Elan Ripsticks at 172cm, but plan on buying them in the 180cm. 

I have done a ton of research on the black edition and the regular editions of the Elan Ripsticks, but I want to hear from anyone who has tried these skis on both the East AND West Coast of the US. I usually ski the West Coast, but moving out east I think it's going to be more of a 50/50 split, maybe even 60/40 in favor of the East. Can the regular ripsticks hold up on the east as an everyday ski, or should I spend the extra buck and have a bit of a less playful ski in the blacks?
