 It also handles basic sleep tracking, and it'll auto detect when you doze off, in theory. In my experience this hasn't been terribly accurate however, it seems to think I'm sleeping when I'm awake a lot of the time. It's nice to have it there when it does work though. What it does do remarkably well, and what makes this much more than just a pedometer, is auto detection for activities

 The Fitbit Flex 2 has no heart rate monitor or GPS, which means it isn't going to be a good choice for serious athletes, but that's clearly not who this is aimed at. It works well as a step counter and seems to be pretty consistent with the results from my Vivoactive HR, and that information along with some basic metrics such as height and weight will then allow the Flex 2 to guesstimate your calorie burn for the day. Note though that without asking for your body fat percentage or taking a heart rate reading, this isn't going to be terribly accurate. It should be good enough for most users though, and what's important here is that the calculation is consistent and that the numbers are moving in the right way

 So this isn't going to cut it for most gym rats, which is a shame with a name like Flex. Other than that unfortunate omission though, I do believe that Fitbit is the best in the business when it comes to activity detection. One more fitness feature is the obligatory movement reminders, which cause the device to buzz when you've been sitting for too long. This is pretty standard by this point, but it's well implemented here

As a traditional watch guy, I never really liked the form factor of the so-called smart watches and really disliked the thought of having to charge it every day or so.

Someone gave me their Charge 2 when they upgraded to a more expensive one and I really liked it.  After a couple of weeks the band broke so I bought myself a Charge 4.

All I want to do is track my sleep and get reminders to get up and walk a bit.  The Charge 4 is slim and I can go 7 days before I have to charge it.  It's also comfortable enough to wear at night, to track my sleep.

The Workweek Hustle challenges for me!  I find them more motivating than any other things.  Also, I've been using Fitbit for nearly 9 years and I'm really just used to the app interface.   Plus I don't want anything bulky so these have the right sizes for me.

Fitbit is what it is, and it's not what it's not.  If that makes any sense at all, that's what I like about it.  I like fitness trackers and have had a samsung watch, garmin vivosmart, vivosport, a fitbit charge 2, and now a fitbit luxe.  

The samsung did everything, and did it pretty well, but not as well as a separate HR band and head unit for my bike.  It was also absolutely massive and heavy on the wrist.  Samsung got a little heavy handed with their ads, which pushed me away.
The garmin was great at first but got rapidly crappy.  It allegedly measures many of the things the fitbit does, then compiles them into a "body battery" metric.  Unfortunately the HR reading was crap, sleep tracking was crap, and distance, even when connected to GPS, was crap.  So I can't parse out HRV to make my own conclusions, I have to go by body battery which is a big gamish of data.
Then there's the fitbits.  The charge 2 was really accurate in terms of sleep, and the HR tracking was impressive too.  I decided to buy a luxe to replace the Vivosmart because I like having a compact, whoop-like health tracker that can also tell time and view notifications.  The app is clean and I can see my kid's stats as well as my own.  The activity tracking is somewhat mediocre, and heart rate doesn't seem as accurate as the garmin, but the garmin didn't work at all if you weren't tracking an exercise.

So anyways, really long winded, but fitbit offers a great package for casual users and for what most people are looking for- great sleep tracking, some social element, and lack of complexity.

fitbit is the king of sleep tracking and something like garmin doesn't even come close. I don't have experience with Whoop (I've heard good things), but I refuse to wear a tracker that literally does not have a display. I've owned multiple fitness trackers from garmin up to their Fenix line and their sleep tracking is absolute shit compared to even the most basic fitbit models. They have better tracking for fitness activities, but I always ended up going back to fitbit for the sleep tracking and getting a more dedicated tracker for my fitness activities (i.e., bike computer, heart rate strap, etc.) The auto sleep detection is unmatched in the industry right now, where even naps are registered. From the last time I used a garmin tracker, I had to set a parameter of when I normally sleep for it to start tracking... it NEVER tracked my naps. Similarly, fitbit has auto-workout tracking, which is very convenient for many reasons. It isn't perfect, but it sure beats whatever else is out there in that regard.

The social interaction with friends is just that fitbit was the first of its kind to make it big where you can compete against your friends in step-count. I think because fitbit was first, I found so many more people on my contact list as fitbit users. I found like barely anyone on the garmin friend list... so that community aspect for garmin didn't exist for me.

There is a case to be made about an apple watch being on par with fitbit for the strengths listed above. However, with apple watch being a 1-1.5 day battery device, I have to charge it daily if I want to use it for sleep tracking... personally quite the annoyance.

I've looked into more expensive options, but it always turns out that smart watches don't perform as well as Fitbit when it comes to battery life (a day vs. a week), sleep tracking, and exercise tracking (Fitbit's auto detection is key). I bought a pricey Sense, what a mistake after being a faithful customer for 10+ years.  The glass cover shatters easily, customer support is useless.  The FitBIt Community forum will only accept comments that are positive about the product.  MY LAST FITBIT PRODUCT!

I always find myself drawn to their products over the years even though my Garmin products have been more reliable. Is it the app interface? Hardware? They do a good job marketing. I see so many complaints I’m just wondering why they continue to grow in customer base.

The draw of Fitbit?

”Congrats! You just earned your Italy badge” huh? What! What in the world is this iodiocy? OHHHHHH, I see I moved the equivalent distance of walking the length of the country of Italy. How moronic!  I’ve probably consumed the same amount of calories that Chicagoans eat in a week - SO WHAT!?  The problems actually started early on. Paring the device, setup, tech support, navigation - terrible! This just contributes to the pseudo-science that diet plans, hucksters and Amazon Whole Foods pedals.  Its syncing capabilities are horrible and it can’t calculate anything that is an anomaly

 Its easy to wear and not distracting in any way. However, its also not attractive (um, well designed is probably a better way to phrase it) the design is utilitarian which is fine because the function should match the design.  I have not compared this with similar competitors so its possible it is better than those but thats not saying alot.  If this were a beta product then I’d cut them more slack but being born from an industry ethic thats basically says “who cares if it sucks, we’ll fix that later

Strong n Hype, low on Delivery

 Now you can adjust your step count goal in your Fitbit mobile app and we've said it before and we'll say it again, Fitbit has the best fitness tracking app on the market hands down. Its super easy to use and it keeps you motivated with rewards and challenges and if you really want to get technical the Fitbit app can also help you out with that. Now the fitness tracker doesn't just count your calories burned and your steps taken, it also now connects with your phone so it'll vibrate and light up when you get a text message or a phone call. Since there is no actual screen it doesn't tell you who you got it from, it just tells you you got one

 Now just remember you're not just buying the hardware, you're also buying into Fitbit's mobile app. And we've said it before and we'll say it again in this very same video, Fitbit has the best fitness tracking app. So if you need something that will definitely log everything correctly and accurately and beautifully then I would definitely pick this guy up either for yourself or as a gift.

 If you're looking for something with a heart rate monitor then you might be interested in the Fitbit Charge 2. Now that guy came out in the beginning of September of 2016 and we have a review on it which will be linked down below. Now Fitbit does sell extra wristbands and pendants and necklaces and bangos so if you want options to stylize your Fitbit you have a few things to choose from. You can also get some more stylized wristbands from the third party market

Fitbit Flex 2 Review

The battery life also isn’t the best. The flex battery lasted 6-7 days wearing it every day all day pretty much where as the versa 2 last maybe 4 days, usually not more than 3. The motion activated screen doesn’t work. You have to flip your wrist dramatically before the screen turns on

 Overall I do not regret the purchase. I get useful enough information from it as I am only looking to accumulate relatively accurate record of my activity and sleep habits. That said, it does create at times very flawed or misleading data so there it is. If your goal is to amass an accurate data set of your activity or sleep quality/quantity then I think you will find this falls short, if on the other hand you are only looking for a mildly accurate picture of your activity then it has a lot to offer at a reasonable price point

OK I prefer to wait a while before posting review and this FitBit is a perfect example of why I feel that way. Over all this version works for me as all I am interested in is step count, sleep duration and quality.  First the good: It is small and comfortable to wear, the band has enough adjustment to accomplish this. It is waterproof, it only leaves my wrist to be charged so no issues with being out in the rain, pool or the shower

 The phone display is seriously flawed in the reporting of battery status. Even if I close and reopen the ap it often will not update the battery charge status then out of the blue you will see a Low battery warning. Couple this with a longer charge time than you would think for a tiny item like this and you often find yourself putting it on a charger and heading out - missing large chunks of a days activity because you can't sit around and wait for it to charge. Charging at night completely negates sleep monitoring, one of only the two reasons I own it

But it can get confusing especially if you forget what exactly each light means. I'm also not impressed with battery life.  But overall, the Flex 2 is still a good tracker for anyone who wants a simple, discreet, and waterproof fitness tracker. Plus the Fitbit app is one of our favorites. The swim-proof Fitbit Flex 2 is a winner

 Will be wearing my replacement HR when I get it if I'm not going swimming. IF it works in the pool. otherwise I will keep it for backup.

I have other trackers, I just bought this one so I could wear it while swimming. It doesn't automatically track, you have to go into settings and tell it the length of your pool. 10 yards is the smallest it will recognize! The bedrock in my yard said without blasting 18' was the largest I could go. Don't buy this if you are planning on tracking your swimming in a pool smaller than 30' or if you are swimming in open water
