I'm looking to buy a dive computer - and the options out there is quite overwhelming.

# Requirements
I'm just an open water purely recreational beginner diver - with 3 dives post-cert so far. I'd love to dive more and I'm interested in doing advanced open water and Nitrox in the future. I'm potentially interested in a live aboard in the future. I don't think I'll be looking at technical diving any time soon, though this ABC article on cave diving has me intrigued - https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-01-08/sinkholes-of-south-australia-limestone-coast/100701716 - but I believe you only need advanced open water to start learning cave diving.

I think I'd prefer wrist-mounted. I'd like to have air integration to allow all information on one screen and to track my air usage data. I'd like to have a digital compass, in place of analogue gauges (I only have an SPG, no depth or compass), for navigation. I'd like to be able to download all dive logs to my computer and/or phone (if Bluetooth is available).

# Options / the debate
I see lots of posts saying buy Shearwater or nothing.

For reference, here are the lowest prices I've seen in Australia in AUD:

- Shearwater Teric - $1,575 + $539 Transmitter
- Shearwater Perdix AI - $1,325 + $539 Transmitter
- Shearwater Peregrine - $729 (No air integration or compass!)

For the price of a Shearwater Peregrine, I can buy these Suunto dive computers, all with air integration and compass:

- Suunto EON Core - $745 + $199 Tank POD
- Suunto D5 - $739  + $199 Tank POD
- Suunto D6i Novo - $799 + $179 Transmitter + $89 USB cable
- Suunto Vyper Novo - $489 + $179 Transmitter + $89 USB USB cable

Is the Shearwater Peregrine really that much better than Suunto models with air integration and compass that it's worth sacrificing those features? I have read about EON and D5 lockout divers who break NDL for more than 3 minutes, and not stellar Suunto customer service... but is it really that bad that it's not worth buying?

Otherwise, I'd have to pay almost double to get a Perdix AI to get air integration and compass features... and if that's the case and I'm already pouring that much money into a dive computer, then why not get the latest with the Teric?

I know there are these other brands and models of dive computers, but I haven't researched too much into them:

- Scubapro A2 - $699 + $249 Transmitter
- Scubapro G2 - $899 + $299 Transmitter/HRM
- AquaLung I450T - $699 + $300 Transmitter
- Oceanic Geo 4.0 - $579 (not sure if this has AI)

Free Diving Watch

Great dive computer/watch, but beware of the silicone band

         I like to exercise recently so I have been thinking about getting an Apple Watch for tracking heart rate and sleep and things like that. I also am in the market for a dive computer watch and have been saving up to buy a good one. 
       I am wondering if there are any good combinations or suggested smart watches that are also dive computers? Does anything exist in the market like that? And any personal recommendations are appreciated too

Being able to change the display is very nice too, wish there was more fancy ones but I like to be able to change to suit my mood and occasion.

How do you log your dives?

Thinking of buying the suunto d4f for a dive watch but not sure if i can use it as a every day watch aswell. Not set on just this watch, so if anyone has any recommendations I'd love to hear it! Is there any apnea/ dive watches that are good as every day watches aswell?

Suunto d4f as a day watch?

Same thing happened to me. Fenix 6x using cycling activity for 6 months staright since buying it, rarely an issue. All of a sudden my heart rate wouldn't go above 110-120 on the same activity. Emailed Garmin and sent them all the stats, they said they are aware of the issue and are working on it. This was about 1 year ago. Still doesn't work properly and had to get myself a chest strap. Pretty disappointing considering it's a top of the range activity watch. I understand the limitations of wrist HR however if it worked decently well for 6 months with rarely an issue, clearly there's something wrong when it just stops doing that.

Also owned Fenix 3 previously which took a while to catch on to actual HR however once it caught on it worked well.

I've had my Fenix 5 for about a year and a half. I love everything about it but the HRM has never worked properly for me. It seems to work okay under about 100 but for anything above that it is useless. 

The strange thing is, I can find evidence of the HRM working well in some previous workouts. But in most, no matter what I do the HRM won't go above 100 - 110. I've tried different areas of my arm, tightened, changed arms - I can't work it out. 

So I've decided it's time to find an alternative. My girlfriends apple watch reads my HR fine and I tried out a whoop band which also worked, but the Garmin for me is better in every other aspect. 

Are the newer Garmins equiped with a better HRM? If not, has anyone else had this problem and found a decent alternative?

Garmin Fenix 5 HRM barely works for me... Now what?

Really torn on which way I want to go here.

Recreational diver with very low probability of ever going technical, but who knows. Want a good screen mostly otherwise would just get something cheap. Considering these options:

- Brand new Peregrine for $450ish - good all around but no compass which I think I'd want. AI would be nice but that's not a deal breaker for me. Feels kinda cheap of them to leave off the compass. AI I get.
- Used Garmin MK1 - these are going for shockingly low prices new now that the MK2's are out. Like $500-$550 is quite possible, so only $100 more than a Peregrine. Has a compass. Sounds pickier with safety stops, and not sure about Subsurface support. No AI either.
- Used Perdix (non-AI): Around $500-$550 used
- Used Perdix AI: Around $650-700 used

Was going to jump on the Peregrine, but now the lack of a compass is making me question it a bit, combined with the low prices I'm seeing on used MK1's and Perdixes.
