 So i'm figuring this thing out, as i do the review here so setup was super easy. Let'S take it out on the road and check it out. I'Ve got the mount on the seat post and it's really easy to install. So it comes with two different size: rubber, wedges, well, actually, three ones for an arrow seat post, like i showed in the beginning and then two different sizes for a round seat post

Garmin Varia Review - For me it's a game-changer

what good it that? I may have a defective device and plan on returning it for a replacement. I'll update this review after I test out the replacement. In conclusion, when Varia works properly it alerts you simultaneously with an audible tone AND a visual alert simultaneously, and it gives you the opportunity to manage the road better and for enhanced safety. But, I don't trust it's inconsistent performance

 Now the key thing to understand about varying this has been true since the very beginning. It'S all about the relative speed between you and that vehicle so and that's how it works. It'S looking for things that are overtaking you from behind this is on the back. Your bike, so it's not looking at anything in the front, is purely from behind there and it's trying to see things that are closing that gap and by things I literally mean things it can be a car

Speed sensor? Cadence Sensor? Heart rate sensor?

What cycling accessory would you consider to buy first?

 Where I ride cars and tractor trailers pass me going 60mph so this is an investment in my skull.

So far great

 The garmin varia has been extremely accurate. For me, i've had no false negatives. In other words, there was a car coming up behind me, but it didn't pick it up. I'Ve had maybe one or two false positives, and that is that it beeped letting me know that there may be a car behind me and there wasn't one again: that's only happened once or twice so the accuracy and the reliability of the varia has been very good

 So, if i'm on a road where the speed limit's around 55 miles an hour, what i noticed is when this beeps i've got about 10 to 12 seconds before the car is next to me, and that gives me plenty of time to move over check the mirror. I watch the mirror the whole time as the cars are coming up behind me to make sure they're giving me enough room, and what i do is on those rare occasions where a car is absolutely not moving over whether they're a distracted driver or they're. Just being an idiot, then i will move off into the grass now. Fortunately, i ride in an area where we have some really nice grass shoulders and there's not guard rails or anything like that

Garmin Varia after 5 months -- Here is what I think

  I used to have some generic AliExpress lights (you can see they're still mounted on the handlebars), but they were unfocused, so they drew quite a bit of power to provide enough light. I'm sure oncoming drivers didn't appreciate it. Because the new ones are focused, they're much more efficient with power usage, only using about 25 watts of power on low, and 35 watts of power with high beams. The halo lights draw 8 watts

 I'm very happy with the app. It's a very basic, lean, and clean app. It's not loaded with a bunch of unnecessary options. It does just what it is suppose to

 I used this radar for the first time on a 20 mile loop only due to the time of day. I must say I was very excited with the way the radar performed. For the first 5 to10 mins I still looked over my shoulder. Once I had a handle on where the car or cars were in relationship to what I saw on my phone

 In other words I'm not a racer. I'm not sure how this device has escaped me for as long as it has. I used this radar for the first time on a 20 mile loop only due to the time of day. I must say I was very excited with the way the radar performed

Where has this device been all of my life.

Gear wise, I can’t speak more highly of the Garmin Varia. It’s a rear-facing radar + blinky light, what when synced with a Garmin cycling computer, will alert you to rear approaching vehicles. It’ll give you an idea of their speed and distance via an on-screen indicator.

I have got into road cycling 9 months ago and I love it so far. I got myself all the essential clothing for summer and winter cycling (all from Decathlon). Got some bags for my longer trips as well (2x140km and 1x175km). After cracking my phone screen decided to get bike computer as well…

So my question is, what kind of gear/clothing is most worth upgrading (or buying) and is there actually such?
As an example - I have been looking at some brands like MAAP and their bib thighs - 260€, is there such huge difference with my Decathlon Van Rysel 80€ bib thighs?
