 These are actually made right here in the united states and i'll put a link to them down in the description. These are actually high speed, steel cutters. Now these cutters fit perfectly in the gerber center drive and they are ridiculously tough, like i cut a couple nails with them, and i still, i can't even tell where i did that, and the other thing is: if you accidentally damage one of these edges, you can Actually, rotate it without the whole thing cracking on you, so we are going to install those while we're at it and then we're going to talk about the rest of it now. The problem is, i think, the funny part here is that the center drive, the the cutters here are the same price

 Now, if i hadn't taken them apart, i probably wouldn't realize that all right and there you go so it's not perfect. I was trying to do it quickly, obviously, and through a viewfinder, but i think you get the idea at the very least i feel like this is an improvement over the original, because i don't have anything that i'm really actually worried about, and this allows me to Eliminate the flat head potentially from being held here, so it gives me additional functionality. I don't need a bottle opener on an item that has multiple flat surfaces. I can open a bottle on just about damn near anything, and i would much rather have small, narrow flat heads when i need them, and the fact that i can now use a saw potentially whether it's metal saw or wood saw, i can find replacement blades for This this is what the upgraded center drive should at least look like now

 I would rather have what another implement. That is inside the mp600 bladeless, and that is this exchanger now would it do i do i really do wish they would upgrade to the t-shanks instead of this old style, but i've looked around and you can still buy different blades in this in this basic idea. So what this is, it's basically a replaceable saw holder and in this video right after we're done with this, i am going to convert this to what i wish it really was, and that is where we're going to start right now now, as you can see, i Went ahead and took the tools out of the mp600 believe this ahead of time, so we didn't make this video too long. I am using proprietary tools that i got from russia, the same guy who created the loki wrenches that we talked about with the leathermans, but you don't actually need this

Obviously we can't fix the problem with the bit holder, i'm still working on a solution for that, but in the meantime this is already significantly better. Now i need to make some minor adjustments as far as spacers are concerned, but, generally speaking, i think this would be a big improvement for most people

 The other difference over most multi-tools is how the pliers come out. Since it doesn't fold inside out to protect the blades as most do, this has a slider to pop the pliers out, which also opens the handle. In theory, there is nothing wrong with this approach, but the slider is very finicky, getting stuck often until you wiggle it a bit. And since it has to slide pretty far to come all the way out, one handed operation is different as well, unless you have really long thumbs

) And the main blade performed OK in the "slice a single sheet of paper" test, although not so well in the "shave your arm hair" test. Some hair was removed, but it was more pulling it out than shaving it cleanly. But the reason I really can't recommend this is because there are just things about this tool that simply don't work as well as I would want. First, as seen in my image, the inside knife is very awkward to use

 So there we go. The Gerber warranty is fantastic. I have a new issues in the past. Unlike a lot of American companies, they have people in the UK dealing with their with their warranty replacements, so it should all be handled very quickly if there's a problem, it's definitely always been handled quickly for me, even when it's been damaged, because I did something stupid With it, which has happened more often than I should probably I meant to so - let's just go straight into the tools

 Here they are replaceable much like weatherman's wire cutters are, but unlike lemons, wire cutters, they're also rotatable. The weatherman's here have one cutting surface. You damage it. You take take this piece away and put in a new one on the Gerber

 Instead of having to use your mostly. But because you had the bits from the multi-tool, you can do that so yeah. The bits are a big difference in the center drive and that element a hugely positive difference for me, and it also means that you can get different quality bits if you you'd have to spend 25 pound on a Leatherman bit say if you want a screw to Do actually specific job you want to just buy something, that's worth pence and use it, and if it breaks never mind, oh, so if you want to get good stuff, like we habits, you can do that as well. So, let's move on to where you keep your bits, which is the sheath

 You just put it in the set their most bits in the world, fit and work with the centre Drive, and it also means that if you are working somewhere for example - and you have your Center Drive on you and you have an impact driver - and you come Across a screw, that's maybe a hex screw. You might have the right bet in your Center Drive set and be able to swap it into your driver and do the screwing that you need to do with the proper tool with your impact driver. Instead of having to use your mostly. But because you had the bits from the multi-tool, you can do that so yeah

I was initially looking at the Leatherman Bond but I have heard mixed reviews (and the concerning Blade flaw). I then turned to the Leatherman Rebar.  Price wise the Rebar and Wave are in the same price range. In noticing that they are a tad smaller form factor than I thought, I started looking at the Center Drive, then Surge. The Center Drive and Surge are also in the same price range.   


I currently have a squirt as everyday carry but Id like something a little more heavy duty when need be, likely something ill leave in my car glove box. I also do the odd build project here and there.

Leatherman Surge vs Gerber Center Drive

  Overall I seriously wanted to like this multi-tool but unfortunately it wasn’t the one for me.

I've really been looking into multitools lately, but I can't really seem to find the like 'perfect one'. (To be fair probably doesn't excist but worth a search). I thought maybe you guys could help me out!

So basically what would be perfect for me is the following:

\- Pliers (would be great but not necessity)

\- Relatively large blade compared to the tool, with a locking mechanism and one hand open/closeable :)

\- Scissors

\- Screwdriver; flathead and philips 

\- Bottle opener

Anything extra is a bonus!

I was looking at the skeletool, but it's missing the scissors, and on the expensive side. Also the Leatherman style ps, but it's missing the blade. Also the Gerber Suspension NXT is looking promesing, but I prefer the other locking mechanism.

I know I can be really nitpicky over these things :p

Looking for multitool that would fit me

I really wanted to like the Center-Drive Plus but returned it

 Now, when I did the original Center Drive video, I actually fractured the carbide cutters on the center drive trying to cut through a 1/8 penny galvanized nail. Now I realized that these are not designed as hard wire cutters they're designed as soft wire cutters. The problem is they don't do that very effectively either, and the reason for that is is because the cutters themselves are squared off. They don't have any angle to them whatsoever

 It'S a big improvement over the nylon and velcro velcro closure case that they had on the original Center Drive. Also, the big configuration has changed a little bit. They give you 12 additional bits, apart from the two that come with the multi-tool itself, for a combination of three Phillips drivers to Robinson drivers, two Torx drivers, four flat drivers and three allen drivers. I think those come that's a good combination of bits that come with this multi-tool for what it's designed for

 Let'S talk first about the name sync of the Center Drive and that is the outside accessible driver that, when it's fully open lands in the center axis of the multi-tool, this is a very nice driver and it works very well. It'S comfortable to use in its fully open position. The only thing that I have a complain about is: I wish that they had a stop here, at the ninety degree position for those times when you need to get a little extra torque on a fastener. Apart from that, the driver itself is very well constructed, it's very robust and it uses full dimensional bits, so you really get a good purchase on whatever fastener your trying to loosen or tighten the next tool on the outside of the center drive plus

 It'S more of a blunt needle nose, I guess kind of a hybrid plier. I really like the plier design on these because they are very strong. They give you a good purchase on whatever you're trying to get a hold of the needlenose are very aggressive on the teeth, so you're able to really grab hold of stuff. I really like the main pliers, though, because of the grip angle of the center drive Plus and because of the robustness of the pliers themselves
