 You can use this as a pry tool, scraping tool, obviously as a flat head screwdriver. That all works great. And then on the other side here and to one hand open this, you have to open the one side and then kind of catch your thumbnail under the Phillips head driver, there you go. Flip the flat head back in and now you have your two dimensional Phillips

 You just catch your thumb on that little piece or you can use your fingernail and flick it up, deploy it, get a nice solid snap and this is rock solid lock up. It's not going anywhere. You can use this as a pry tool, scraping tool, obviously as a flat head screwdriver. That all works great

 Pliers work great, all the stuff there, pivots nice and smooth, opening on this is a little bit stiff but I imagine with time it would get worked in and I believe that's it for this Gerber Crucial review, pretty cool.

 I have a lot of knives that just have two screws holding the pocket clip and they work fine but when those screws loosen up, you'll get quite a bit of wiggle and if you have something like a Spyderco or I don't know, Cold Steel, any number of other knives where they use three different Torx bits or three different screws holding them in, they tend to come loose a lot less often. Moving on to this other side, we have a one handed openable flat head driver and that is not very long. That shank is super short compared to the overall size of this tool but there are trade offs as with anything and with this multi-tool, the trade off is that it locks. So you have a liner lock locking mechanism, you can see it lines up just about perfectly right where you want it to be for a liner lock

The Gerber Crucial multitool, back to the basics!

 Some people own their skeletools and love them but in my opinion you might as well pack as much into a tool as you can get. The only time I use my Gerber crucial now is when I fear it might be confiscated for legal reasons so I don't want to take one my bigger, more complete tools, but even then I am probably better off taking the gerber dime (really great tool for the size, similar to the leatherman squirt ps4).

Having purchased a gerber crucial early on, which is gerbers answer to the skeletool, I wouldn't recommend the skeletool. Don't get me wrong, it is a great tool when you have nothing else but what is the point of having a multi-tool with less tools. Some people own their skeletools and love them but in my opinion you might as well pack as much into a tool as you can get. Skeletool vs Signal

  Not so great thinks about this multitool: - It's thick. As in bulging out of your pocket. The aluminum construction allows colored anodizing (green, red, gray, etc.), but requires thicker pieces than stainless steel

 Nice not to have to set down what you are working on to get it open. - Not a lot of "useless" stuff. - Bottle opener/carabiner combo works great in both roles. - Tools are all accessible without opening the pliers up

 - All of the tools lock open. A safety feature with the knife blade, nice for the other tools. - Pseudo-sheepsfoot shaped blade is more of a cutting shape than a "fighting" or weapon shape, lessening your chances of problems with law enforcement. - Pocket clip allows tool to sit low in pocket, keeping it discrete

 - Bottle opener/carabiner combo works great in both roles. - Tools are all accessible without opening the pliers up. - All of the tools lock open. A safety feature with the knife blade, nice for the other tools

Great minimalist tool with some flaws

I currently carry a Leatherman Rebar and absolutely love it. It is quite large/heavy for a pocket carry\* and I only really use the pliers, drivers and bottle opener. I don't need any blades, saws or other tools (I carry a pocket knife and small utility knife). 

I've been looking at the Skeletool - any other multitools that are minimal and lightweight with pliers, drivers, bottle opener?

\* I don't like wearing sheaths. I carry everything in my pockets.

[Recommendations] Pocketable multitool with pliers and drivers

  The carabineer is OK, but I would much prefer a more useful tool (especially since there is a pocket clip on the knife (which I think should be on EVERY multitool as an option). The black version of this tool, with the safety cutter is a better version, but that still leads me to the question, what do you need in a multi tool? This may cut it for some, I would say it is better to get a Leatherman Wingman at this price point, and for a few bucks more you can get a Juice S2, which adds scissors, and loses a few ounces in the process.

  What I don't like about the tool, and one of the reasons I don't carry it every day is that the flat driver is nearly useless at the plier end of the tool, and barely an inch long. The Skeletool seems like a neat device except that its bit driver only accepts proprietary Leatherman bits.  Is there a multitool out there that is similar, of good quality, that accepts that standard bits?

 a good blade is important to me. Im giving this 4.5 stars ( i reserve 5 for things that blow me away) because for the price and what it is its pretty stellar.

 Its got a great blade and pliers. Its not a survival or camping tool as it doesnt have the tools that you would want for that; and it wont replace your toolbox. But it is a great pocket multi tool. If youre looking for something with all the bells and whistles then i would suggest a leatherman juice however youre gonna be sacrificing the blade

 You wont find a blade this nice on say a Leatherman Juice (which is a great product) or other multi tools this size with all the bells and whistles. If the blade is important to you then youll enjoy this one. i like the weight and size. Its heavy enough to feel rugged but not so much so that you wouldnt want to carry it in your pocket

  --- Final thoughts:  All in all, for the price, I doubt it can be matched. It has the tools that I wanted, and no more. However, if the Skeletool had been the same price as I had gotten it for some years ago ($45), then I would have bought it. After having used it for 3 months, I believe I made the correct call

 Differences include: knife blade shaped like a tanto instead of pointed, color coated handles, the carabiner/bottle opener is retractable, singles sizes on the screwdrivers. It is also noticeably thicker. Skeletool had a couple of points that were a bit sharp, this one is very smooth, no sharp edges when closed. I'll carry it for a while and let you know how usable it is

Light and a great value, not a perfect Skeletool replacement

 and then my crucial tool made a sound like "plink!" and the pliers no longer worked.  Alas. Overall.

 I believe I was loosening a stubborn nut from a piece of all thread... so yes, arguably I should have gone and gotten a wrench, but hell man

 Overall... If you're not ever going to put this to serious use, hey, you know, this is a great casual tool

 But if you're like me and you actually USE your multitool for things it should be able to be used for (plus, let's be honest, all those little things it wasn't designed for), then I would advise going with a different tool.

Eh... LOVE the Concept and Design... Durability Not So Much

 Belt clip is low profile and works very well. Locks on screwdriver bits are easy and affective. Bottle opener - you'll be amazed at how well it works!  Cons:  The blade isn't as sharp as other Gerber knives I own but it gets the job done. (I haven't tried sharpening it yet) Philips tip is a bit thin, use caution on soft screw heads
