Glock 40 MOS 10mm - Too big or just right?

We are not gun owners, but I’d say we are pretty reasonable people when it comes to guns, as long as the people in our lives who are owning/carrying are smart about it.

My FIL is NOT one of those people. At our wedding last month, he started casually chatting with my husband and bragging about his new conceal carry. The man has never owned a gun in his life before this. He bought it to “protect my family,” but even being around many small children at family gatherings, doesn’t keep it well secured on his person (keeps it in a small shoulder bag). Most importantly, he was already carrying while not understanding the safety mechanisms on his gun (a Glock), and hadn’t taken any trainings yet.

Honestly I was already terrified that in the near term one of our nieces/nephews are going to go find it while digging in his bag. And obviously I’m now even more concerned that our child will find it when they are old enough to be more mobile. 

I think we could tell him to leave it at home if he visits us (he’s afraid of the area we live in though so that would probably prevent him from visiting). I’m more concerned about seeing him at other family functions. He would definitely bring it to a family BBQ if he would bring it to a Wedding. 

Has anyone else dealt with something like this?

For the record, I've shot one glock and hated the grip, which seems to be a common complaint, idk.  


Anyway, every talks about how great and reliable le they are, but then you hear "nobody has stock glocks."  So, why spend $500 on a gun you're going to have to spend more money on to make it how you like when you can stop a bit less overall on a more expensive gun that is great all around out of the box?  


Or, alternatively, is the appeal the sheer number of aftermarket parts that allow it to be so customizable?
