 You can really dive into into those turns. Awesome. So like you said the terrain at Red, really steep. You have to be able to turn quickly, dump speed

 So big mountains, you know Red has a lot of tight tree skiing but places like Jackson, Big Sky, any big mountain in the northwest of the United States and Canada is where this ski will excel. Awesome. So part of what is so unique about this ski is that it's a big ski but it's very lightweight but what would you say to skiers who are still looking for a really stable platform that can hang on in big mountain terrain? Yeah so good question but the thing that's really interesting about the Core 117 is its lightweight construction but this is a big aggressive ski that has a really nice stiff platform that allows you to really hold that edge when you need to like on kind of very committed steep terrain where you don't want to fall you really need that edge but hold that edge and then drop in and this ski will take you down through the bottom where you really need that stability at speed so you don't get bucked off and that's what this thing is like the sweet spot is actually pretty small and you kind of you really need to be on it aggressive forward and then this ski is for you. Awesome

 So like you said the terrain at Red, really steep. You have to be able to turn quickly, dump speed. Where else or who else would you recommend the Head 4117 for? What type of ski is this? Yeah this is an aggressive ski. No joke about it

 Welcome to our 2022 ski test. Got a Headcore 117 for you today. This is the biggest, widest core that they make. This thing got some refresh from the previous years

 You can dictate if you want to tighten it up, smear, slarv, skid your turns, anything like that. And we do see in these, it's going to have the widest taper, the lowest taper shape here. So widest part right about there. And then some pretty dramatic splay to the tip and that pretty aggressive rocker as well up here

Really heavy. The bindings and boots you picked are par for the course looking at double-duty gear, but those skis are heavy even for dedicated alpine use. Would recommend something more like a Head Kore or Elan Ripstick if you really want one setup for everything. Also, I'd go down a width or even two

I am planning to take the splunge and put together an alpine/touring set up from my trips to NH/VT as well as out west in UT/CO. I expect to hit 70% resorts and 30% backcountry areas. I currently have a beater pair of rossi sky 7s and looking for a bit of upgrade to get a much larger taste of the backcountry. How well do you think my below powder snow touring set up looks:

Alpine/Touring Set Up

 These are light and stiff, so you're going to get the same great flotation because of the surface area, but different performance. In terms of rocker profile, this is where like a 117 differs from a 105 or a 99. Still pretty bouncy camber underfoot. That's going to help you terrain get sketchy or something like that

 But even so, it uses these materials to gain stiffness and power, and it does a pretty good job. For a hand flex, they're very stiff. It's just impressive at how light they get because of that stiffness. So they really have a unique feel as opposed to some of these other wider skis that either do have metal or they're light and flexible

 So if you're looking for that powder ski that has some stiffness and strength to it, get some response out of it. This Core 117 is a fantastic option. This is a 189 here and this thing generates a 24.6 meter turn radius, so it's a pretty long turner

 It gets the same build that the rest of them do, so it starts with a Karuba wood core, and they add graphene, chloride, and carbon to the mix. So normally a ski of this width isn't going to have a bunch of metal in it to weigh it down, so that build is kind of more in line with this wider ski versus a narrower like the Core 93. But even so, it uses these materials to gain stiffness and power, and it does a pretty good job. For a hand flex, they're very stiff

I've been leaning more towards quality over quantity in my skiing these days, forsaking the seasons pass for cat skiing trips in BC. I've got a pair of 2009 Nordica Jah Loves (140 waist) that are... fine, but lifeless. They're dead flat, no camber or rocker, and I haven't been reaching for them as much lately. Generally I've been pulling my Katana V-Werks (with Dynafit bindings because these are my touring skis) out instead while jealously eyeing my buddy's Liberty Genomes.

After a recent cat trip I decided that I should probably invest in some big skis that are purpose built for the cat skiing I do. I'm not a crazy rider (no spins or flips really) but I love hucking off cliffs in the 15 ft+ range. Sometimes I even manage to land them.

I haven't bought skis in a few years and most of what I'm seeing now is in the &lt;120 waist range, seems like companies are more focused on skis that work in-bounds as well, which is not a consideration for me. Has there been improvements in ski design tech that make fatter skis unnecessary?

Can someone point me in the direction of some hard-charging fat skis that aren't built to be used inbounds? I'm looking for 190+ length, stiff, heavy, and fat enough that the guide says "wtf?" when they pull them off the back of the cat. The only ones I'm aware of are Pon2oons and Genomes - but there has to be more than that, right? What am I missing?

Cat/Heli specific FAT charging skis

Hey, I have read myself into an analysis paralysis. I am looking to purchase my first set of Ski's for European resorts.

I am 175cm tall and 80kg and I would classify myself as an advanced Skiier, I have typically skied japanese powder for most of my life and love having the ability to quickly dip off piste and go through the trees and find the fresh powder, but as I ski with groups of differing levels I probably spend 70-75% of my time on Piste. Going break neck speeds is not my priority, I prefer to have fun by just messing around on the mountain with friends. I am looking for a ski that will provide me with that experience but then if I get into some deeper powder it is still going to be able to hold its own and have a great time. I have been looking at these skis

Where I ski: Utah and western mountains.

Wanting to get a new pair of skis, but I'm not sure exactly what. I ride off-piste 90% of the time conditions permitting. I have a playful/aggresive ride style.. I like carving down steeps, hitting cliffs. Since last season I've been doing, but with my current heavy-ish ski, it's hard to get a lot of pop for certain features. Conditions I'm looking to use this ski for are days for when the mountain has good snow. I don't need this ski to perform in crud or icy conditions. 

Currently have Blizzard Rustlers 10 188s. Love them, Absolutely great ski. Don't love the heaviness of them. Wish they had better flex for butters.

Having told you this, what skis would you reccomend? Might go Demo a pair next week.
