The Hennessy Expedition Asym balances comfort, weight, and price better than any other tested models. The weight is in line with most of the full shelters we tested, but its comfort and price far outweigh the less pricey options. The asymmetric design allowed our testers to achieve a reasonably flat lay for back and side sleeping, and the width gave plenty of room to curl up in the fetal position. The design is well thought out, with every component working precisely with the others. Even though the Hennessy isn't among the larger interiors, the integrated ridgeline and included storage pocket add to the livability of the space. We like that it uses more durable feeling nylon than other lightweight shelters. The weight capacity is somewhat low at 250 pounds, but the fabric feels ready to withstand more abrasion than others.
One downside: hanging the Hennessy isn't the most intuitive process. You have to learn a particular type of lashing for the rope, but after a little practice, the mechanics come easily. Admittedly, more fiddling is involved than with most of the other tested suspension systems, and adjusting the tension takes more time. Another drawback to this model is the relatively small rain fly. While it provides adequate coverage from moderate rain, blowing rain can sneak under the tarp.

 That'S something nice to think about before you set your hammock up. You don't want to have to get in and out of it against a wall, so we're going to take our cordage and we're gon na run it through both of our nylon straps, and there is a pretty cool lash that is kind of typical of the hennessy Hammock, it's less of a knot and more of just a wrap of your rope. So once you get your rope through both ends of your webbing you're gon na pull it tight and we'll just put a little half hitch in there right now to keep it stationary until we get our hammock kind of centered between the trees, this one will do Kind of the same thing go through one set view the next set and we'll half-hitch it there, pull it nice and tight, and we're on this side see and see you want about a 30 degree. Hang really! You want the the base of your hammock to be about chair height, there's a pretty good rule of thumb, so the lashing technique that we're going over

 You can see the asymmetric shape really really well, there's a point here with an elastic guy line and a point here with an elastic guy line and that kind of helps hold the hammocks shape, while you're sleeping in it. That, combined with this patented ridge line, allow for a really roomy comfortable, lay so you're gon na take your elastic guy line, and these again are designed just to hold shape. So this can go around pretty much any vegetation. So this is one of the optional add-ons that you can purchase through hennessy

 It'S got that asymmetrical shape that Hennessey is known, for it does a great job of keeping you nice and comfortable when you're, laying on that perfect diagonal yeah. Let'S get this thing set up, so we've got our trees picked out, they're kind of close, maybe about 12 feet apart. Ideally, you'd want them about 15 to 25 as possible, but this should work just fine for our demonstration today. So we're gon na take our webbing

 It all tucks away in here and you can strap it on the outside of your pack or coil it up on the inside of your pack and it'll, keep all of your gear inside nice and dry. Your rain fly. Has these two plastic rings on either side? So you're going to take your o-ring and up on your suspension line, you have these two tension knots, it's Prosek knot which are designed to slide when pressure is applied to the knot, but when pressure is applied to the hook, they bite and do not slide. So you know, take your o-ring clip it into that hook and we can just kind of let that hang out there do the same thing

I am 5'11" and weight 185 lbs. The product description says that this hammock works for someone who weights up to 200 lbs. I put the hammock up in the back yard and tried sleeping in it and found: a.) that it is way too cramped for my body; b

 So that's not an issue. I just put this back on for the review just to kind of show you you know what's in the box stock so that that's really my only complaint is the rain fly is really too small. If you're going to be, you know using it in the winter. If you're going to be using it in the rain, it's very very small

 I think you can adjust the tension of this. I haven't done anything with this, though, but there's a whole bunch of setup. Instructions on on hennessy hammock comm be sure to check that out. Another feature I, like you, have this big pocket where you can store whatever you want water bottle

 So basically I have very, I have not much room. Let me see if I can get an above shot for you, so there's not much room guys. As you can see. I have this side in the mode that you would use if it was raining

 I really like the asymmetrical design here. They have a good product here. I had to deal with their customer service on another rain fly that I purchased, which I ended up returning, because I kind of I didn't really like it, and I just decided to use my E & O tarp, but I already had I was trying to save So I was trying to save weight and I ordered the bigger rain fly, but I ended up returning it. So my dealings with customer service, the shipping back to them, was, I think, 20 bucks and it was $ 20 shipping to get it to me, but other than that I mean I chose UPS, you can you can just do you know, Stan male and uh

First time hammock camping in 25 degree temps.

Maybe a different Hennessy product would work better...

I use a Hennessy Expedition Zip hammock and really like it. It’s not the lightest system out there but for $160 you get a nice hammock that has a ridge line and bugnet built in and also comes with a rainfly. However I'm getting a bit overwhelmed with the options. I'm going to need all the normal things: bug net, rain tarp, suspension, etc. I have a sleeping bag so I don't think I need an underquilt.

Weight: 135 lbs
Budget: No more than $200 for everything 

Time frame: I'm leaving in early June so I'd like to get this as soon as possible.

Having trouble sifting through options. Can anyone recommend a good budget hammock setup for a 2 week backpacking trip?

 The price was off putting at first and I eventually just decided to go for it! So while the below wall of text may seem contradictory to the rating I gave it, it's more of just sharing my experiences with this hammock so that maybe people who buy it will be aware and prepared for when they take it out.  This thing is nice and light weight and since it has no true "hard" pieces I could throw it in a compression sack if I want. Usually I just keep it in its stuff sack close to the top of my pack.  Now while this maybe strictly due to operator error, but setup is definitely a learning process

  Pros: Light weight, versatile, good on the back Cons: Definite learning curve to setting up and taking down effectively, bug net can not be removed, no stakes  Bought this hammock 4 years ago right before a hike to Black Forest Trail in the hope that I could save space and weight. And this hammock did both quite well and much more! Did quite a bit of reading online and watched a few videos about setting the hammock up since this my first camping hammock.  you may want to get a mat to place beneath your sleeping bag because I got pretty chilly without one and it was only in the 60's)  Things I recommend you purchase to make life much easier: *(2) sturdy Carbiners (attach to metal rings and leave on the Hammock, you can set it up in a couple of minutes this way) (I'd recommend some extra ones to hang items from the cord on the inside) *(4) metal rings *(4) Tent Stakes *Pair of Hennessy Snakeskins (slide it over the hammock when your ready to leave & the hammock never touches the ground) *Kammock Python Straps (MUST HAVE.. with these you can set you camp pretty much anywhere you go)
