Herman Miller is a brand, they make many chairs. If you're asking why they're expensive it's because it's a premium brand, designed to a high spec with good materials and made well. There are other high end brands like Humanscale, Hag and Steelcase. Theyre popular because they're good chairs.

I personally think that dealing with Herman Miller directly is best, having a middle man (aka a dealer) is second best but may result in extra problems. When buying through an eBay seller would you go through them? Are you able to go through Herman Miller directly?
