 Hi there, Dave with Crandall Office and today we're going to be taking a closer look at the lumbar options on the Herman Miller Aeron Classic Chair. So let's get started. Alright, so the first option we're going to take a look at is going to be the standard sliding lumbar pad that you see here on this Aeron Classic Chair. This is going to be a, I've got one of the lumbars here, this is an OEM lumbar pad

 You also do have the two sides, the thicker and the thinner side to allow you to customize at least a little bit on how much pressure is pushing into your lower back. Third, it's very easy to remove and replace this if anything ever does change, breaks or you want to replace it. Any of those options, it's just a quick and easy product to take off and put back on. On the con side, I would say that the only having the two options for the amount of pressure pushing into your lower back is a little bit limiting

And also on that side that you need to completely remove the lumbar pad and reinstall it the other way to change that amount of pressure

 It does not have any height adjustment ability, so it is going to be in a fixed position, but it does have quite a bit of pushing in adjustment to really let you fine tune how much pressure is pushing into your lower back, which is a great feature. You can really fine tune it by just turning this dial here and it's also kind of easy to adjust while you're sitting in the chair, which is nice. The actual pad is a soft pad, similar to the standard lumbar pad, but again, just a little bit different design. Looks real nice

As others mentioned this sits low and doesn’t offer a ton of support for the lumbar. It didn’t come with instructions so I had to figure that out on my own. It was terribly difficult but there was some confusion as it came with extra pieces I didn’t understand how to use. Overall I like this add-on okay because it does offer more support than without, but it’s a little expensive and my install experience wasn’t optimal

A few issues

Came with no instructions. Just a bubble wrap bag with the parts thrown inside. Luckily I was able to find instructions on-line and installed it. Definitely better than the standard back support that comes with the chair

.. is an upgrade.  HOWEVER, what you should know before buying is that this lumbar support sits VERY low on the back

 I'm a fairly short person (5'5") and I would argue this support is a hair too low for me. However, if I keep it on medium support then I don't notice after about 15 minutes of work.  I was hesitant to give this 4 stars as I can easily see this being a bigger problem for taller individuals who use size B Herman Miller's. BUT, my lumbar does feel more supported with this than without

 (P.S. I installed solely with a Philips screwdriver fyi).  Second pro is this lumbar support does provide a more even support than the standard Herman Millar lumbar pad and for what it's worth

Much better than a lumbar support, this actually works to put your lower back into the correct position. High quality device and fits perfectly with chair. Much better than the lumbar support option, as it provides better posture and the fittings are solid and sturdy (the lumbar support's fitment is prone to tearing at the connection between the foam body and the anchors for attaching to the chair).  One minor gripe is that the installation instructions are not well done, with small pictures that do not show enough detail to determine the direction of objects pictured and the text is often ambiguous

Takes a different approach to support for your spine, by addressing your posture from the root (pelvic area). It's 'passive' lumbar support, if you will. Several recent high-end chairs are built this way today, though still generalize it as "lumbar support" since it's a key phrase that those familiar with ergonomic chairs are familiar with.  Note: --It's far more effective when sitting upright with your behind far back on the seat pan

 With that said, it's much better than the lumbar support that comes with the aeron. The lumbar support dug into my back and this can be adjusted a decent amount, but I wish it had more flex. If you want more back support than the aeron chair by itself (but not the back biting lumbar), then get this. $85 is a bit expensive for this though

I did not think this was worth the price. It only provides support right at the bottom of your back and although adjustable forward and back, why would anyone pay this much for this to not use it at the forwardmost position? Even I the forwardmost position, it doesn't provide enough support. It does not adjust up and down at all which is what I need. The standard, solid lumbar support just works so much better and can often be found for under $20

 However, the Aeron chair is much more comfortable with this, compared to the old lumbar pillow. I'm very glad this upgrade is available, because I love my Aeron chair, and thought I might have to buy a new one when my lumbar pillow ripped.
