Convenience is just middling, though, in part because of a large and heavy tank that tends to spill when moved. It’s also on the noisy side. Pluses: The Honeywell HEV685W automatically shuts off when empty, and it has an empty-tank indicator. But the unit lacks a humidistat, so you’ll need to buy a simple hygrometer, around $10, to monitor your room’s humidity level.

 Wow, this unit is so much quieter than what it replaced. While we personally like the white noise, this unit is super quiet and I would recommend on that aspect if that's your thing. I will update the post after a full month of usage but so far this is putting out a ton of humidity and I estimate a full 3 gallons in under 24 hours which is great for our home's needs

Definite upgrade from 6009 but could be better

I bought this exact model in the beginning of 2020 and was happy with it, but it wasn't enough for the space I used it in, and if you have hard water like I do, the filters become expensive, even in bulk if you can get them. I bought a second humidifier in the fall of 2020, but they changed the plastic for the tanks. The first one has clear blue plastic, easy to see through and easy to handle. The newer one has pale gray opaque textured plastic tanks which makes it much harder to see where the water level is while top filling because it is the same color as the water and harder to see through

 I also found this plastic to be slimy when wet. Overall, the humidifier works well as described, they are easy to carry when empty, and is reasonably quiet. But, it blows cold air (as it is a cool mist humidifier) and more than one lowers the temp of the room, causing me to boost the heat. And, the whole filter system is labor intensive, having to take the machine apart each time to rotate a wet filter or re-wet the filter if it gets dry

They changed the tanks

 Tried contact Honeywell about getting it repaired but website only has run-around prerecorded options that don’t apply with no other help. I don’t know the other 3 are working well and very happy with them but if it breaks - it’s done. I recommend you purchase the washable/reusable humidifier wicks otherwise you’ll go broke buying the brand name paper ones. I have to wash wicks every 3 weeks to keep them working well

Excellent Humidifier but Little Hope for Repairs If Breaks

 Even then it will still automatically shut off the fan on occasion despite supposedly being at the "always on" dial position. I have to periodically give it a nudge to get it going again. A few weeks into ownership the green power LED also stopped working. I can live without a green LED, but this along with the humidistat issue and the rather fragile-feeling plastic construction, are constant reminders that this is not the most robustly engineered device

This is an effective humidifier that can put a lot of liquid into the air in a short time using a relatively quiet fan, although that also means you'll be filling it up frequently if your air is particularly dry. The water tanks could be bigger, although no doubt that's part of the trade off between capacity and size, but it's nice you can choose to fill them in-situ rather than removing them to fill elsewhere because they're awkward to carry and the plastic doesn't feel like it's terribly robust.  So why only three stars? I read with trepidation about all the issues other buyers had with the float switches, which thankfully I did not have. Instead my unit suffers from a poorly calibrated/adjusted humidistat that requires me to crank it all the way to one end of the scale for the unit to run at all, even in the dead of winter with the heating up high and the air bone dry

 The manufacturer advised that the non-removable grate was designed that way for "safety" reasons, but the result is a serious danger to the health of our family from running a dirty or moldy humidifier. At the moment, I'm considering putting waterproof tape over the dials, then turning the housing upside down and soaking it, grate downward, in vinegar solution 3 or 4" deep, i.e. not reaching the actual mortar

 A quick way to humidify a large room Now the cons: 1. How does one fill the reservoirs from the sink? There is no handle. One must open the lid to use the design flaw handle, because once you refill reservoirs with water, you'll definitely spill some on the way from the sink to the humidifier if you keep the lid open. If you keep the lid closed, you are holding a bucket of water close to your chest, and hoping that it doesn't spill out from the lid that is barely sealed shut

After figuring out how the machine uses water from one tank, then the other (as opposed to simultaneously drawing water from both tanks), this machine is great. Working reliably, and putting humidity into the air. The control work well and are intuitive. As the house does not have a water softener, the only "drawback" to this humidifier is that -- to keep the cost of replacement filters down -- I'm buying RO water from a local health food store, which is pretty inexpensive, but a hassle to haul
