HSU VTF-15H MK2

It's easily one of my favorite subwoofers now. I get why people have requested this in for review. It's only $900, and it performs as good and if not ...

And they've done a review on the subwoofer as well.

\- 2x subwoofer $2k: HSU VTF-15H MK2 (Alternatives: Rythmik FVX15, SVS PB2000). \- 7.2.6 speakers $7k: Kef Q950 x2, Kef Q350 x4, Kef Q250C, Kef Ci160QR x6 in ceiling atmos (Alternatives: Klipsh RP line, SVS Ultra series, Monitor Audio Silver, etc at \- Speaker stands $1k: Monolith stands from Monoprice or similar from B&H. \- Wires $1k, 30h work: 99% oxygen free copper 16 AWG wire to all speakers inside smurf tubing in the walls, fiber optic active HDMI cable (required for 4k over 20+ feet), subwoofer cables with shielding, wall plates at each speaker.

That is absolutely not overkill. I have a HSU VTF-15H MK2 in an even smaller room (9.5 ft. by 12.5 ft. by 8.5 ft.) and I have loved the bass so much I plan on adding another (possibly 2 more), or instead getting an absurd JTR beast.

I was also able to do the entire thing indoors in my finished basement without making a mess or destroying anything. I really enjoyed the process of building the sub and I'm extremely happy with the outcome. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. The output of this subwoofer is amazing, it's powerful enough to make my HSU VTF-15H MKII sound anemic which is no mean feat.

HSU VTF-15H is about the best bang for buck. SVS, Rythmik and PSA have excellent subwoofers as well. Not to mention all 4 of those companies like to play below 20hz for those awesome lows.

I’d build exactly what I have right now.

Elac Adante AF-61 towers ($2,500 shipped on clearance)

Hsu VTF-15H Mk2 ($1,038 shipped)

Pioneer Elite SC-LX701 (~$1,500 or so)

Now if you were to go with the HSU you could upgrade but I believe you would be paying full cost for each upgrade and their flagship sub is the VTF-15H MK2 Subwoofer which performs slightly better than the pb 3000 but not quite Pb 4000 level. And if you were to move from HSU from another brand you would once again be paying full price while if you stuck with svs you would have saved so much money. I think you get the idea but once again to answers your question the HSU is the slightly better sub.

I am a big fan of my HSU VTF-15H MK2 subwoofer. Makes the couch move during movies, handles music like a champ, and (key for you?) is frequently mistaken for an end table. If the HSU fits, wear it.
